A post about gratitude for my community being supportive of our needs
I am a Mom to That Kid. The kid whose behavior can be so extreme that I completely understand that other parents would not want their children around my child. While having a child with these special needs can feel isolating, I want to thank those who have made my family feel welcomed.

Great tips!
“I had that first, Colin! I want it now!” Owen shouted after dinner one evening. His little fists clenched, his face reddened, his eyebrows furrowed, and his voice rose to a screech. Owen felt angry, no doubt about it. As I captured his little hand mid-punch and reminded that we don’t hit, it occurred to […]

Rituals allow our children to feel safe.
Every single trip to the grocery store, the twins are eager to see the monster. They wave and say hello to the monster. It doesn't matter that he doesn't talk back. It doesn't matter that the monster is actually a longhorn cow. They used to be scared of the monster, but he grew on them.

We all Love Our Children
"Why does she even have kids if they are going to be in daycare all day?" or "I love spending time with my children, and that's why I homeschool. They are only young once." Comments similar to these are not uncommon if you ever frequent internet sites populated mostly by stay at home mothers or ...

Social Learning on Urban Hikes
This is my first year homeschooling my children. Legitimately, those not familiar with homeschooling are concerned about socialization for homeschooled kids. I agree it is important for my children to learn positive social skills. Whether children are educated at home or school, parents need to ...

How my childhood influenced my love of the outdoors
I hope my children are developing a love of the natural world. I often wonder how much and what kind of outdoor play do they need to grow to cherish our earth. Are the outdoor experiences I am providing for them enough? How did my upbringing contribute to my passion for the outdoors?

What you don't see in the Instagram pictures...
If you view my life through The Golden Gleam's Instagram feed, it looks like we are playfully energetic and creative family who loves spending time together. It's an accurate portrayal of our family - most of the time. But there are the phases and moments in our life that are not picture perfect ...

On letting the kids' do their own school projects.
“You’re not being graded on this, Sarah!” my husband screamed from the dining room. “Very funny,” I said. But I wasn’t laughing. I’m a recovering school nerd.

What a fantastic idea to bring animal figurines out to play amongst large boulders.  It looks like it sparked her imagination!

Thank you for sharing at the Outdoor Play Party. I hope you come back again tomorrow to share.

The Sunday Parenting Party is now live
Moms who blog are often accused of being too perfect or pretending to be so. What is portrayed on a mommy blog is a small portion of a mother's life. I swoon over the DIY kids' activities, orderly and well decorated homes, and healthy recipes made from scratch shown on many mommy blogs.
