Wonderfully strange photos of life in the jungles along the far reaches of  the Amazon by Nicolas Janowski http://nyti.ms/17nZvns
When Nicolas Janowski travels the western reaches of the Amazon, he is stirred by “the exuberance of the jungle” — its spirituality, humanity and “voluptuousness.”

All you have to do is read what was prophesied in 2007 about Syria and you will see what will happen next with 100% accuracy!

Fascinating story and photos by Yeong-Ung Yang. "For dozens of Korean and Chinese immigrants living in Flushing, Queens, riding the casino buses has become a way of life. Twice a day, they descend on unmarked bus stops off Main Street to secure a $15 seat to the Sands casino in Bethlehem, Pa. Many do not gamble. They make the trip solely for the free gambling and meal vouchers they receive when they arrive, coupons they sell on the black market. A half-day trip to the Sands can net around $40."
For dozens of Asian immigrants in Flushing, Queens, the back-and-forth bus trips they take to a casino in Pennsylvania aren’t limbo — they’re how they get by.

Seems to me the Bedouin man in photo #6 ought to be an Olympic broad jump athlete.

The remarkable Sarah Leen talks about 125 years of National Geographic  photography soon to be on exhibit at the Annenberg Spacefor Photography in LA and her new job as Director of Photography of the Nat Geo Magazine. "..we believe photography has the power to illuminate, educate and, perhaps, to put it rather boldly, change the world. We partner with photographers who are as passionate about this as we are and who are dedicated to using photography to make a difference and to show you the beauty and the tragedy all around us"

Slide show includes    John Stanmeyer  Lynsey Addario Marcus Bleasdale,Abelardo Morell, Alex Majoli  Brent Stirton, David Alan Harvey, Ed Kashi, Eugene Richards and Vince Musi.
A sprawling exhibition of National Geographic photography displays images familiar and forgotten from the magazine’s 125 years, while its curators wonder what’s next.

Compelling photos by an itinerant photographer in the turn of the century American South. I want to get hold of one of these Penny cameras.
Hugh Mangum’s candid portraits of Southern society after Reconstruction, though largely unknown, reveal personalities as immediate as if they were taken yesterday.

Part 2- Photographers on the editors who had a profound influence on them. Alexandra Avakian on Robert Stevens, Darcy Padilla on Nancy Lee, Donna Ferrato on John Loengard, Joseph Rodriguez on Fred Ritchin, Stan Grossfeld on Tom Winship. http://nyti.ms/17JoS14 "Not only do photojournalists get to travel the world, wear funky scarves and meet all kinds of people, they usually get their name underneath their images when they are published in magazines and newspapers or online. Photo editors, on the other hand, are usually stuck in an office, toiling anonymously. No matter how good a job they do, their name won’t appear in the newspaper the next day. (Unless they commit a crime.)"
Thank you to Yunghi Kim Kim who compiled both posts and to Kenneth Jarecke who co wrote yesterday's introduction. http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/08/20/photo-editors-who-made-a-difference/
Photographers recall photo editors’ influence on their careers in Part 2 of a two-part series on that symbiotic relationship.

Photographers write about photo editors that changed their lives. Yunghi Kim, Kenneth Jarecke, Maggie Steber, Eric Draper,Carol Guzy and  Librado Romero talk about Carlo Mastricolo, Robert Pledge, Michele duCille, Jim Colton, Mike Davis and  John G Morris. Thanks to Yunghi for putting this together and writing the intro with Ken.
Photographers recall the luminary editors who are or were integral, if unseen, forces in getting their images to the fore.
