Compelling photos by an itinerant photographer in the turn of the century American South. I want to get hold of one of these Penny cameras.

Fascinating story and photos by Yeong-Ung Yang. "For dozens of Korean and Chinese immigrants living in Flushing, Queens, riding the casino buses has become a way of life. Twice a day, they descend on unmarked bus stops off Main Street to secure a $15 seat to the Sands casino in Bethlehem, Pa. Many do not gamble. They make the trip solely for the free gambling and meal vouchers they receive when they arrive, coupons they sell on the black market. A half-day trip to the Sands can net around $40."

Part 2- Photographers on the editors who had a profound influence on them. Alexandra Avakian on Robert Stevens, Darcy Padilla on Nancy Lee, Donna Ferrato on John Loengard, Joseph Rodriguez on Fred Ritchin, Stan Grossfeld on Tom Winship. http://nyti.ms/17JoS14 "Not only do photojournalists get to travel the world, wear funky scarves and meet all kinds of people, they usually get their name underneath their images when they are published in magazines and newspapers or online. Photo editors, on the other hand, are usually stuck in an office, toiling anonymously. No matter how good a job they do, their name won’t appear in the newspaper the next day. (Unless they commit a crime.)"
Thank you to Yunghi Kim Kim who compiled both posts and to Kenneth Jarecke who co wrote yesterday's introduction. http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/08/20/photo-editors-who-made-a-difference/
