***THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE SKATE SHOP AT THE RINK*** Apparently the skate shop has changed its name before, so to make sure people know how bad this particular skate shop is, I am writing this review at the Polar Ice House Page. The only two things I'll comment about the rink itself are 1) staff are very friendly 2) the rental skates are plastics. Now back to the skate shop: I ordered a new pair of skates because the rental skates at Polar Ice House are impossible to practice. The owner seems to have a decent amount of knowledge about different brands and styles, so I ordered mine right away. The owner assured me that they will arrive in a week, sometimes even less than a week. I paid upfront and then went home waiting for their call. I waited and waited. A week later, I called in, and the skates weren't there. I went to the store at their regular hours, only to find it closed.... after a gazillions of calls of inquiries, finally my skates arrived after two entire weeks - I have literally thought about suing them at Small Claims Court given that I paid them 2 weeks in advance and they provided no sort of written promise and they never called me with any updates. This is not the main reason why I hated their business, yet. When I picked up my skates, the lady told me that, the skates have been sharpened. She even offer to sharpen for free if I need to have them sharpen again in the future. As someone new to the field, I trusted her once again. When I wore my new skates to my class at the Dr Pepper Star Center, my coach noticed that I was slightly slipping when I practiced the 3-turn and wondered if my skates were sharpened. I thought I might just have some trouble breaking into my new skates since I was pretty sure the owner of the skate shop told me that they were sharpened. However, the second time I wore my skates to the class, I had a terrible slip while doing 3-turn and actually fell on my knee. It was the most painful fall I've ever had on the ice that I actually could not continue skating for the rest of the class. My coach took a closer look, and told me that the blades are blunt as new. In short, the owner lied to me about the condition of the blades, which eventually got me injured, pretty badly - so bad that I am once again thinking about suing their business. I immediately had the skates sharpened at the Dr Pepper Star Center. It only cost me $6. I do not understand the motivation why the owner had lied to me - it's just an extra 6 bucks to sharpen the blades. Does she think that telling me that she sharpened my skates for free would give me a better impression of her business? In case the skate shop changes its name again: currently it is called "Ice Ice Baby", operated by Caitlin (Kate) Jensen and Kathryn Jensen. Kathryn was the woman who lied about sharpening the skates.

I've been there twice, and I'm about to go again for a 3rd time. It is an amazing rink, and very easy access. Although when I went for my first time, the ice wasn't very slick and the second time I went, it was really slippery! But overall it is one of my most favorite places to go!! I can't wait to go with some of my girlfriends really soon!!!!

Polar ice house management staff is not only caring but spends the time to work with each individulal custome to customize a trainging program for each skater. The learn to skate program has all new staff, who are all certified and trained staff. You will not receive instruction from a 12 year old student like other rinks in the area. They have invested time, effort and money to fix any former rink issues. We will continue to enroll in their program and are very excites about the care and special attention we have received! - learn to skate basic skill student
