Space Heater Safety

Electric space heaters require high wattage, and should not be plugged into outlets that supply electricity to other devices.

Do your lights blink, flicker or dim momentarily? Do your circuit breakers trip often? Do you hear sizzling, buzzing or crackling? Are your wall plates or cords warm to the touch? These are all warning signs of an overloaded circuit.

If you find that you are overloading a circuit in your home, you should contact a licensed electrician to help resolve the problem.

Always remember to give space heaters a very wide air clearance and never use extension cords.

Vampire Power!
Also know as standby power, idle current, or phantom load. The terms refers to the electricity many gadgets and appliances waste just by being plugged in (even if they're switched off). What do you think your cell phone charger does all day while it's plugged into the wall? It's been using electricity -- even if it had nothing to charge. Put a stop to Vampire Power and UNPLUG!
