Jackie is thrilled to be reporting for WLWT News 5. After spending three years covering the Bluegrass at WLEX in Lexington, Ky., this Maryland native has made her way north again, crossing the Ohio River to join the best news team in the Tri-State.
While in college, Jackie spent a summer as an International Radio and Television Society summer fellow, interning at CBS Network News in New York.
After graduating from the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism, Jackie went on to report in Washington D.C. for the area's only 24- hour cable news station, NewsChannel 8. She also appeared regularly on NewsChannel 8's sister station, WJLA ABC 7 News. While in the nation's capitol, she covered everything from Pope Benedict XVI's visit to D.C. to the 2008 presidential race, filing live election night reports from the democratic congressional watch party on Capitol Hill as President Barack Obama made history.
But Jackie's passion for reporting stems from the stories that are not as high-profile. Her coverage of a community college student's enduring struggle for equal access at his school brought enough attention to the issue that school officials eventually made additional accommodations for him. Her ongoing coverage of a string of brutal murders in D.C.'s southeast neighborhood shed light on the need for checkpoints on the streets.
Jackie's career then brought her to Lexington. She began her stint there covering the 2009 ice storm that crippled much of central Kentucky, and hit the ground running from there. Her exclusive interview with a Kentucky woman whose son was named as Caylee Anthony’s father in testimony during the Casey Anthony trial was picked up by CNN and NBC Network. Her nightside reporting was recognized by the Kentucky Associated Press with a nomination for Best Reporter in 2009. In 2010, her investigation of a particularly threatening loan scam was given another AP nomination. She also had the pleasure of covering three Kentucky Derbies, and has several hats to prove it.
A music lover and avid singer, Jackie is excited to explore the Queen City and all of the culture it has to offer. Be sure to follow her on Twitter at @jackiecongedo for instant news updates. She hopes you'll email her at email@example.com or call her at (513) 300-9419 with all of your story ideas!
