When I asked one stylish 30-year-old Beijing singleton to read the Atlantic Monthly's "All the Single Ladies" article to see if it resonated, the line she pointed to as striking a chord with women's rising expectations in China was this one: "When Gloria Steinem said, in the 1970s, 'We're becoming the men we wanted to marry,' I doubt even she realized the prescience of her words." (Article is from Foreign Policy's first-ever Sex issue (i.e., gender and politics) -- May/June 2012, out today.)
