“Utah’s five national parks are home to some of the state’s most incredible scenery. It’s no wonder visitors from all over the world flock to these beautiful places. But sometimes it’s nice to enjoy these incredible national parks in solitude. Utah’s got you covered there, too. While it requires some extra effort to explore Kolob Canyons— the lesser-known, quieter corridor of Zion National Park—it is well worth it." - Roots Rated

“I was particularly blown away by southern Utah. I am a sucker for rocky rugged landscapes and crazy rock formations, and there is no shortage of that kind of stuff in southern Utah. At the center of it all is Cedar City. Over the years Cedar City has become a premier base to explore all the things southern Utah has to offer. There is more than enough to see around Cedar City to keep you busy for a couple of weeks.”

The hub of every community starts with their downtown and Cedar City’s Historic Downtown District is no exception. Quaint local shops and an impressive menu of “urban-esque” cuisine and southern Utah’s only winery as well as regional arts & crafts shops, galleries, coffee house, and an old time soda fountain.

Throughout the Southwest, there are many places where you can view caches of petroglyphs — drawings carved into rock — and pictographs — pictures painted on rock faces — that reflect tribal histories. They exist in the ruins of ancient pueblos, on the weathered walls in Mesa Verde in Colorado, in Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, and just north of Cedar City.

During the open house (October 27-November 18), the Cedar City Temple and surrounding grounds will be open to the general public. Following the dedication on December 10, only Latter-day Saints with “temple recommends” will be permitted to enter the building. The grounds will still be open to the public.

As the season comes to an end, this week is your last chance to see Utah Shakespeare Festival's performances of The Tavern, William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged) and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
