Latest Momentos...

"Almost three and a half years since the last one. I’m not proud to have caved, and it’s especially hard to admit it was all for a girl. Fuck, thinking back, I don’t know what came over me. She wasn’t even my type. Dragged me off the dance floor and into a booth, pulled a flask from her purse and put it to my lips. Sips became shots and then came darkness, dreams of screams and broken glass."

What's the old saying?..."It's better to regret something you HAVE done than something you HAVEN'T done." :)

Have you watched this yet? A few people have said it's best video they've seen from me. I hope it puts a smile on your face :-)

Actually you did reply and provided the link. But a second time around is OK too. :)

Goals while on the cargo ship:

- Practice at least a half hour of Spanish every day.
- Write one diary-style book, a chapter a day (minimum 20 days).
- Transform my old Course In Courage into a book.
- Workout at least five times a week.
- Average at least 8+ hours sleep per day (don't think I've done this for more than a week in many years).
- Read at least one book per week.
- Avoid scurvy and shipwreck.

Doubt I'll get bored

P.S. I just posted more details about the trip on the blog, with video from one of the coolest places I've been on my travels: My upcoming 26-day trip aboard a cargo ship from Japan to Peru http://www.ndoherty.com/cargo-ship-2/

Here's how I responded to some recent criticism. How do you think I did? --> http://www.ndoherty.com/criticism/

Inca mysteries, sober merriment, and kicks to the head (latest Momentos)...
I quit drinking three and a half years ago, dreaming of a day like today. The birthday boy in a mad Irish pub on Paddy's weekend, able to let loose with nare a tipple.

Momentos from my first two weeks aboard the cargo ship. Teaser:

My last views of Asia come from the bridge of this beast. Sun setting behind Mount Fuji, a full moon rising soon after, doing its best to rival the redness. As we creep out of port I think back along the trail, picturing a face that made each place memorable. An old friend in Dublin, a promise in Bucharest, love on the River Kwai, my two guides in Hanoi… And to think: the entire Americas still await.

Momentos are back!

This edition from the first half of February, up to the point where I finally boarded the cargo ship. Also, if you'd like to get a sneak peek of the book I wrote while on the ship, scroll down to the bottom of the post ;-)
I'm not seeing the reflection of a happy man. These past few days have taken their toll. Thought I had it all figured out, only to have everything come undone.
