QuickLitted Flash Fiction Writing Group: What we're about...

This meetup, based in Woodbridge, VA, is free to join, but there is a fee for each meetup. Meetups will be face-to-face and virtual (eMeetup).

The fee for each meetup will be $3.00 per person (first meetup is free). 20% of the fees collected will go to operating expenses, and 80% will be given away as a prize to the person whose story is voted the best for each meetup. Fees will be collected via PayPal, so that winners can get their payouts as quickly as possible. This means you need to have a PayPal account to participate.

QuickLitted is a group for creative writers who enjoy a writing challenge. Each meetup, there will be a different writing prompt, and you will be asked to write a short piece of fiction (flash fiction) of between 300 to 999 words around the writing prompt. Sometimes the prompt will be one to three sentences, sometimes it will just be a picture and sometimes it will just be five to seven random words.

Each meetup will be up to two and a half hours; half the time for writing and half the time for sharing. Please be willing and ready to share (read aloud) what you've written, because your flash fiction will be posted to the companion site for the meetup, quicklitted.com, and I'll be asking those who follow me on my social accounts to vote for the best story from each meetup. The story with the most votes will garner the writer the 80% pot.

If you're new to the idea of flash fiction, go to the following link to read a bit https://www.newyorker.com/books/flash-fiction .

** Please note that inactive members will be removed from the group. Inactive means you have not attended/participated in four (4) meetups/eMeetups in a row. In order to participate in virtual meetups (eMeetups), you must attend at least one face-to-face meetup in the thirty (30) days prior to the eMeetup you'd like to attend.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.
