They are however related which is why they often get bundled together. This is when we start hearing instructional designers talking about behaviour change. Note: this is not behaviourism vs. constructivism, it's more new habits vs. new skills.
Now all good IDs know how to design training. But how do you help an organisation change behaviour, which is a super set of training? BJ Fogg has the best tools and techniques I have come across. And they are packaged into a simple matrix that anyone can understand.
Have a read and next time a client says "... change behaviour ..." you'll have a concrete method you can take them through.
- elements of doing 'it' right
- a framework / model
- user input in the form of goals /current state
- challenges accepted / raised by the user
- questions and recommended actions
- availability of tools / instructions on techniques.
