Hey, I know that guy!
Introducing the Hangouts Capture app: snap & save moments as they happen

Google+ Hangouts bring people together, and when they do, all sorts of awesome can unfold. Maybe it's reading a bedtime story to your grandkids across the country. Maybe it's taking a cooking class from your kitchen. Or maybe it's answering questions from your constituents. We hear lots of great stories (http://goo.gl/ENWXo).

The challenge, oftentimes, is capturing your favorite moments as they happen, so today we're introducing the new Hangouts Capture app. With it you can take pictures of your Hangouts-in-progress, including a number of features not available in the usual screenshot workarounds:

- Once you’ve opened the Hangouts Capture app, you can snap photos of your Hangout view with a single click
- All photos are saved to a shared album, visible only to other Hangout invitees
- You can view these photos while inside the Hangout, when browsing your photo albums, or by visiting the original Hangout post
- And, importantly, you’ll always know when the app is in use: when you join a Hangout, when someone opens the app, and whenever a picture is taken

The Hangouts Capture app will soon be available worldwide, so look for it the next time you join a Hangout. Together with Effects, YouTube and other apps, we hope you’ll find Hangouts an even better way to make memories together.

I am working on my final project for my masters degree, and my site is up and running. If you are a Christian teacher or know of any teachers who are also Christians, please share this site with them. I am excited to see where this goes!

if your family household has any interest in video connecting kids with grandparents... or kids w/ parents on the road, or away from home for whatever reason, you should read the below article and understand +Scoot & Doodle ... or the premise behind it.

what they describe here is so true. i've seen this when connecting with my own 7yo when i'm on the road.

if you're just talking w/ little kids over video or the phone, the conversation goes kinda like:

"How's school?"
"fine"

"are you being good to your brother?"
"yes"

"what are you doing?"
"i'm talking with you, daddy!..... can i go play now?"

But... instead if i say "hey, let's draw"... then we have an hour of play.. and talking and interacting and laughing.

if you want to connect parents/grandparents to kids over video, think about stuff like scoot & doodle and other similar activities.

sorry adults... kids by themselves are enough to hold us to the screen, but we by ourselves aren't always enough to hold them there... shall we play a game? :)

A big update for Hangouts!
Do more with more apps in Google+ Hangouts

Hangouts are great for spending time together, as well as doing things together. That's why we've been adding apps to Hangouts since launch -- from YouTube to screensharing to Google Docs. Today we're introducing a starter set of featured apps, and enabling developers to share any hangout app with the entire Google+ community!

Now when you start a hangout, you'll notice a new "Apps" button at the top of your screen. Once inside you'll see both Featured and Recent hangout apps, including:

1) +Aces Hangout, for playing poker with friends, face-to-face-to-face
2) Clubhouse Challenge by +Bravo, for testing your pop culture IQ against other teams
3) +Cacoo, for wire-framing, mind-mapping and diagramming with others
4) Google Effects, for trying on headwear, eyewear or facial hair
5) +Scoot & Doodle, for drawing and coloring with the people you care about
6) +SlideShare, for co-viewing presentations, docs and videos

Beyond these featured items, we're making it easy for any developer to distribute hangout apps across Google+. Just post a link to your app, and users can click to add it to their hangout. It then appears in “Recent” for all their future hangouts. Our Google+ Developers blog has more details http://goo.gl/CUAJ0

We're rolling out these changes gradually, so check back soon if you don't see them yet. In the meantime, you're welcome to hang out for a while, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Very true, but definitely not a bad thing for most of these.
20 tech sounds the next generation won't know

As technology evolves, so do the sounds that go with it -- and many of the dings, beeps, and hisses burned into our brains will hold no emotional connection to the teens of tomorrow.

Just think: The screeching music of an old-school modem, embedded below, means nothing to most kids today.

I assembled a collection of 20 iconic tech sounds that are bound for extinction. Click through, listen, and see how many of them you remember:

Awesome picture!
Three Bridges

A minor earthquake while this exposure was happening. A good tripod helped, but some softness is to be expected I guess.

Visible are the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, and San Mateo Bridge. The last one is just on the horizon peeking through the fog and is more easily seen on the full-size image.

I don't think I have ever posted something for #BridgesAroundTheWorld , so here is my first (although the theme says something about connecting the world one bridge at a time, sorry for posting 3 bridges at a time).
