The Ambergris Caye Marine Turtle Program visited the two nesting sites we found. Good news they have eggs. They are believed to be loggerhead turtles and it should take them about 52 days to hatch. Signs were brought up that say "No Traffic. Turtle Nesting Ground" that were donated by Seaduced and placed near the nests. Now the waiting begins..

Happy 150 London Underground!
My parents bought us kids this game on a trip to London.  I played it, a lot. My family and two others traveled to London the next year. Imagine the disbelief when I, at 10 years old , was in the middle of the tube station arguing with "The Dad's" over the best route to Piccadilly Circus.  I was right.  The rest of the trip I was the navigator.

Here is a album of the garden I designed for our house in the San Francisco Bay area.  It was an organic certified wildlife habitat.  It was a challenging site on a south facing hill, with a 25' rise in elevation from front to back in 60' of space.  During heavy rain, water would pour through the foundation, so we installed french drains all around the house and new retaining walls.  Enjoy the before and after shots.  Happy Gardening!

This is a project I want to do but have to find some succulents to use.  I would love to be able to mail order from https://www.simplysucculents.com/.    Now to get creative so I can have my own Pretty Plant Picture.

+Sonya Reasor  this looks like something right up your alley, a plant mosaic/picture.  Plus something you could do before spring arrives.

Me too!  The possibilities are endless.  I might give it a go with orchids and air plants.  Now to find those too..

In my quest to find information about gardening in the sub-tropics, I ran across this great TV show out of Australia.  The Australians are way ahead of the crowd in promoting sustainable gardening.  They advocate using natives, being water wise, organic and planting a veggie garden.  Because Australia is such a large country, it covers many different garden climates from cold/temperate, desert, Mediterranean through to sub-tropical.  Plus you can download this seasons shows to watch.  Happy Gardening!

This is a native Wild Pinapple (Aechmea bracteata).  They are usually epiphytic (grow in trees) but this one is quite happy at the base of my sea grape in the sand.  It threw off two pups this year.  After this was taken, I removed the pup so the mother will live on.

True Pineapples (Ananas comosus) grow in the ground, but are still bromeliads.  This is a local native bromeliad that has a similar look of the cultivated, seedless Ananas.  Mine has no fruit, only small pellet sized seeds.  That's why common names can mis-lead.  Hence throwing down some Latin. :)

Belize is loosing a precious place due to the demands of the floral industry in North America and Europe. Please do not buy Xate leaves for your floral arrangements. Encourage your church to use other palms for Palm Sunday services. Belize can not stop the demand or damage of the pillaging of our forests without your help. Thank you.
The distant sound of gunfire in the rain forests of Belize is rare but not unheard of, usually a far off solitary hunter. But a 9mm unexpectedly going off close by in the middle of a jungle where there should only be bird calls and monkey howls is personal shock and awe. A few seconds earlier myself, 2 fellow explorers and two rangers were climbing, single file on what should have been a small, almost imperceptible trail in what I believed was o...

Yeah the turtles are here! We found two nests on the dog walk this morning. We can't wait to hear if there are eggs from the Ambergris Caye Marine Turtle Program.

Here's a shot that was taken in 2011  North Ambergris Caye, Belize

Our Sugar Shacks secret patio.  We spent many hours laughing, eating and enjoying the company of fine friends on this patio.  I miss this place and it's plants.
It took many years of thought, planning and learning to come up with the design for this garden.  It was all worth it.  Now to build my new secret garden.
