I stopped reading books when I found my approach was to 'make notes' (in an academic way) and breakdown the text.
If you look at the physical binding then a book is a number of folios (if that is the term) bound together. Or many novels originally being serialised (e.g., Dickens - is there not a story about unrest on the US quayside for the latest newspapers after delays in transatlantic shipping?) so it is also about how the product is consumed.
That was the point I took about the tendency towards the definitive, but only if you accept it.
Csikszentmihalyi in his systemic theory of creativity tells us that we need a domain of symbols to deviate from in order to create.
What becomes a book, it can be argued, is what the field in a given domain considers its truth and this changes as we add to the domain. Can the internet serve the same purpose? Is it already in some domains?
Ask me when I have had no electricity or cell phone coverage for 3 days due to flooding…many of our virtual conversations seem rather meaningless then and yet I can always turn to my bookshelf and read a book or create a spine poem…

That was done off the cuff (based on the research study we had done) :) the other two videos in this series were done by script.
