The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center presents two hands-on workshops for QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise software users on May 23 at Beall Barclay & Company in Fort Smith. The 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. session, QuickBooks for Beginners, is designed for business owners and their employees with little or no experience using QuickBooks desktop software. Topics include company set up, transactions, working with lists, reconciling accounts, and more. The 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. session, QuickBooks Day-to-Day Basics, includes working with invoices, payments, bills, inventory and reports. A computer is provided during each interactive session. This hands-on workshop is designed for those using the cloud-based version of QuickBooks to learn to use the payroll features in this online accounting platform. Topics include tracking employee time, issuing paychecks, paying liabilities, and producing required payroll reports.  A computer with internet access is provided during this interactive session. A familiar face at Newton Tire Company has become the new owner of this well-known Russellville business. Michael Heaton took ownership in December after working at the tire and automotive service center for over three years. The Arkansas Tech ASBTDC assisted Heaton with financial analysis, business planning, market research, and loan packaging. The Arkansas Tech Small Business and Technology Development Center presents an Entrepreneurial Conference on April 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. Four successful entrepreneurs will discuss their journey, how they turned their passion into a business, and share their lessons learned along the way in TED-style presentations.  Speakers include Joel Edwards (Clear Ballistics), Matt Fracek (Nature Backs Clothing), Dana Warren (ABC Children’s Academy) and Fred Teague (The Russ Buss). A Q&A session will follow each speaker’s presentation and the ASBTDC will share business startup tips throughout the conference. The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center presents "Free and Local: Small Business Marketing" on March 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 PM at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.  In this presentation, the speaker shares marketing approaches that are not only practical and low-cost, but are effective for any size business. Among the topics to be covered are marketing fundamentals, image development, customer service, online marketing, public relations, and other low-cost marketing methods. The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center presents a four-week Business Development Series from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays starting April 18 at BrickCity Emporium in Fort Smith. Those wanting to start a business and current business owners are encouraged to attend. During the series, participants identify key aspects of building or expanding a business to create a working plan for their endeavor. Instruction, class activities, articles, and worksheets provide participants with tools to address the four basic challenge areas to every business: an attractive business concept, strong organizational structure, lasting customer relationships, and profitable business operations.
