A little late in sharing #fridayreflections as UK education becomes more brand, product and goal  based (certainly for providers) for 16 to 25 year olds definitely coudl explore the idea of a not college project!

#fridayreflection  A SOOCing we will go! Time for MOOC to have a rename!
Jeannie Crowley's profile photo
I think it's a great idea to simply move onto a new name. Although MOOCs started as connectivist experiments, the name has become synonomous with lecture content. It becomes a question of how much energy do you want to expend explaining that there are different types of MOOCs or simply giving a clear title to each different type of MOOC? I love the SOOC. +Judah Thornewill did you come up with that or has it been bubbling?
I gave a presentation about the variety of MOOCs, trying to explain that the product is really determined by the pedagogy of the facilitator, but I think it's a hard message to get out. MOOCs are still being described as a homogenous group of transmission courses, which do have their place, but don't give fair representation to the diversity of experiences available.

Excellent thoughts, it's going to take a little bit for me to digest them. I think there are a number of unrealized opportunities to improve the learning and the application of knowledge and it looks to me like you are on to something very important. Collaborative learning is the future from my perspective. The old paradigm of branded linear authorization knowledge dispensaries is over even if not all of the dinosaurs have keeled over just yet.

Have set up the Cambridge Online Learning Community based on the HOLC model since Cambridge is our largest near town (20 minutes or so) drive away so allows easy access  More community OLC websites domainsin place  (Ipswich, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, Stour Valley, Colchester as well as Haverhill Online Learning commuity aand the ) on the principle if there is a 1% community participation then expanding the pool of potential participants to over 1 million could lead to enough engagement.  Cross posting and linking of resources could also build resilience!

Cambridge, Colchester, Norwich and Ipswich all have their own universities as well so that may help with the development process of Online Learning Communities in the UK.  The engagement challenge will be the small town model of Haverhill and the rural mixture of towns and villages of the Stour Valley.  The map so far thenetworkofukonlinelearningcommunities | haverhill online learning community shows  coverage of East Anglia so far, moving to a social enterprise entity for funding these communities has to be the way forward.  The communities should be self-funding from the community, even though Google apps for business only works out at approximately £30 per site per year!
