Great interview by Marcie Sillman with the cast of The Seattle Company's new adaptation of Shakespeare's "Henry IV". They'll have a public run at the University of Washington’s Penthouse Theater. But Freehold is more interested in presenting Shakespeare to audiences that don't normally see full theatrical productions: prisoners, soldiers and patients. http://kuow.org/post/why-shakespeare-resonates-new-audience

"I have lived so many lives- daily I lead a new life. My personality took on a different color as the manner of living changed. I find that one carries at least a fragrance of those with whom one has associated. As time passes certain memories stand out and others grow dim. What at one time was an unbearable tragedy becomes a mere pebble in the road when the next obstacle is to be surmounted." -Miss Aunt Nellie; The Autobigraphy

Thank you for your lives, Nellie! As long as we're still here, you are still living one. Happy 138th Birthday!

Congratulations to Cornish faculty member Wayne Horvitz and local boys The Westerlies for this wonderful review by Kevin Whitehead heard by several million people nationwide on yesterday's Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

The Westerlies is a quartet of young brass players who know each other from school days in Seattle. Their debut album is a set of pieces by Seattle-based composer and improviser Wayne Horvitz. Jazz critic Kevin Whitehead says Horvitz and the Westerlies are a perfect fit."

"Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there."

Proud to learn and teach in America and beyond!

It’s summer, time to catch up on stories that got away during a busy term. This week: Cornish theater students have received a number of visitors recently, including Tony Award-winning actress Alice Ripley and NY cabaret diva and Cornish alumna, Lady Rizo.

Kim MacKay has been a member of the Cornish community for more than two decades, and he has changed us for the better. He worked not only as a teacher, but as an advocate- Always willing to help us work to be the best that we can be. He set an example of how to be an artist, citizen, and innovator for thousands of students (and staff) in all disciplines. We are sad to see him go, but wish him inspiration and adventure in Sweden! Thank you, Kim!
