Adolescent (Teen/Preteen) Orthodontic Treatment
Typically the most common age to begin orthodontic treatment is around 10-11 years old. By this time most, if not all, of the baby teeth have been lost, many of the permanent teeth have erupted and crooked/crowded teeth, gaps/spaces and bad bites can easily be detected.
It is easier to treat many orthodontic problems during adolescence because the body is still growing rapidly. Dr. Cohen can usually take advantage of growth spurts to help improve the bite and correct the relationship of the teeth. In addition, many children at this age can be convinced to wear braces because they see friends wearing them.
Unfortunately, some parents assume they must wait to see an orthodontist until the child has all of their permanent teeth… only to find out that orthodontic treatment would have been much easier, and less costly, if started at a younger age.
Indications for an early orthodontic check-up include
• Spacing, crowding, misplaced or locked-out teeth
• Protruded or retruded teeth/jaws or facial imbalances
• Habits, i.e.: finger/thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, mouth breathing, grinding or clenching
• Early or late loss of baby teeth
• Difficulty chewing, biting or speech problems
• Teeth meet abnormally or not at all
Improve Alignment & Self-Esteem
Whether inherited or acquired, many such problems affect not only the alignment of the teeth, but also facial appearance and self-esteem. Through early orthodontic screening you will be giving your child the best opportunity for a healthy, beautiful smile that is good for life.
Treatment times vary. The length of orthodontic treatment depends on what needs to be corrected in each individual situation. Generally, the active stage of orthodontic treatment can last between 6 and 24 months. When orthodontic treatment is completed, the new smile we’ve worked together to create will last a lifetime.

Early Orthdontic Treatment in Coral Springs & Boca Raton, FL
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic check-up no later than age 7. Even though most people think of preteens and teens when they think of braces, there are good reasons your child should get an orthodontic evaluation much sooner.
The Importance of Early Orthodontic Treatment
1. While your child’s teeth may appear to be straight, there could be a problem that only an orthodontist can detect. Dr. Cohen will be able to recognize potential problems early and correct them before they become more serious. This not only saves you and your child time, but also money.
2. Orthodontist can spot subtle problems with jaw growth and the erupting teeth while some baby teeth are still present.
3. Recognizing an orthodontic problem at an early age does not always lead to early treatment.
The check-up may reveal that there is no immediate indication for treatment, thereby easing a parent’s mind. Often, Dr. Cohen will identify a potential problem but only recommend monitoring the child’s growth and development, and then, if indicated, begin treatment at a later time when the child is older. In other cases, Dr. Cohen might find a problem that can benefit from early treatment. In these cases he will create a personalized treatment plan for your child that will prove to be the most beneficial for his/her specific problem.
4. Early orthodontic treatment may prevent more serious problems from developing and may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated. In some cases, early treatment will allow Dr. Cohen to achieve results that would not be possible once the face and jaws have finished growing.
5. Early orthodontic treatment may give Dr. Cohen the chance to:
• Guide jaw growth
• Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
• Correct harmful oral habits such as finger or thumb sucking and tongue thrusting
• Improve the way lips meet
• Create room for crowded or erupting teeth and guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
• Improve appearance and self esteem
For your convenience, we offer FREE consultations, no-down payment and low monthly payment arrangements. In addition, we accept VISA and MasterCard.

Invisible (Invisalign) & Clear Braces

What are invisible braces?
There are now new esthetic options available to straighten crooked teeth without bulky metal braces.  The two most popular choices are:
• Removable invisible (Invisalign) braces
• Clear ceramic braces

What are Removable Invisible (Invisalign) Braces?
Invisible braces consist of a series of custom-made clear tooth aligners that are fabricated especially for you, to straighten your teeth.  This system appeals to many adults, especially for people who do not have severe dental problems.  Wearing the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day will gently and gradually move your teeth into place.  The aligners are made of smooth, virtually invisible plastic material, which fit over your teeth.  A new aligner is inserted approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is completed.  There are no metal brackets and no wires to contend with.

What are Clear Ceramic Braces?
Clear ceramic braces, made of composite materials, are transparent and take on the natural color of your own teeth.  Many adults and teens who want an esthetic and cosmetic option select clear braces because they blend in with the color of your teeth and are less noticeable than metal braces. Clear braces work just like metal braces do.  In addition, because they are a perfect combination of strength, comfort and beauty, teeth are moved much faster than with Invisible braces.
