What is old is new
Happy New Year!  May you find delicious and healthy food in 2015!   To usher out the old and bring in the new,  I decided to make a a fermented salsa verde, which uses new ingredients until they are old. I fermented chunks of tomatillos, jalapenos, garlic a...
I fermented chunks of tomatillos, jalapenos, garlic and onion to pickle them for a week, and then put the jars in the fridge. Fermented veggies can keep for a long time, years in fact. Then when I am ready to serve the salsa, I whirl up a jar of the fermented chunks of goodness in a food ...

I am Southern.  My father's side of the family roots in the USA started in the deep South, in the Delta.  It is in my blog today:  I am Southern.

http://lannaelong.blogspot.com/2014/11/i-am-southern.html
I am Southern. I have lived in the Southern Region of the USA the longest. I lived on West Coast, Northeast and Midwest for years as well, but I am Southern now. I eat and share the bounty that Southern soil allows. I breathe the Southern air everyday. I take in water that the mighty Cumberland ...

These are the best reusable food storage lids ever!  And  they are adorable to look at too!
These are the best food lids ever! Charles Viancin, a Canadian company has created silicone lids that fit on any smooth edged pot, pan, bowl, dish, and cup. These lids provide an airtight seal, but will allow for internal gasses to escape while keeping outside air out. These lids eliminate the ...

This is scary.
Millions of bees dropped dead after GMO corn was planted few weeks ago in Ontario, Canada. The local bee keeper, Dave Schuit who produces honey in Elmwood lost about 37 million bees which are about 600 hives. “Once the corn started to get planted our bees died by the millions,” Schuit said. W

I am Southern. The place I have lived the longest is the South USA. I definitely feel Southern in the way I think about food, what food/ingredients I source locally (within 100 miles from my house) and what I eat. I have worked my little plot of organic land, and I feel the dirt under my nails.

Eat Locally
Introduction
I eat locally wherever local happens to be. I like finding good food where ever I go, from down home cookin' to celeb chef's food. I really like food, so that is why I blog about food. I am not a writer and never will be, so there are gonna be some typos and bad grammar. Oh well, I still love food! Also, I am not a photographer, but my little point-and-shoot camera seems to do well for my food photos. my email is LannaeFood (at) gmail com

Aqui Simpson, chef and owner of 400 Degrees is a really nice person, and nice goes a long way in conducting business. She offers 4 levels of hot chicken or pork chop, 0, 100, 200, and 400 (there is no 300). 0 is no chili peppers at all to 400 which can be so hot you might regret it going in, through and out. I work close to 400 Degrees Hot Chicken, so before I leave the office, I will call in my order, and 20 minutes later, I walk up to the counter and pick up my order. I usually get the 100 degree heat level because it is hot, but I can still taste the other herbs and spices Aqui uses on the chicken. Every piece of chicken or pork chop is made to order. It is fresh chicken or pork chop that is hand dipped in the special coating and then deep fried. Really good!
