New worldwide research published by Finaccord surveying the acceptance rates of various payment types by major retail brands selling online shows the extent to which online accounts are becoming an increasingly widespread form of payment over the Internet at a global level. Furthermore, online account pioneer PayPal continues to dominate the market, although it faces several new and potentially significant challengers.

Summer is in full swing, and in preparation for beach vacations and sun-drenched days by the pool, total swimwear* sales in the U.S. reached $4.4 billion in the 12 months ending May 2014 (June ’13 – May ’14), a 6 per cent increase over the prior year, according to a report published by The NPD Group.

SSI recently partnered with JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU) to allow members of the airline’s TrueBlueTM loyalty programme to join a new business research panel from SSI called the Points for Surveys™ panel (www.pointsforsurveys.com). Points for Surveys members, part of SSI’s B2B inSSItesTM business sample will earn TrueBlue points for sharing their opinions.

New research from Mintel suggests that while craft beer drinkers may indeed love the big, bold flavors of their favorite artisanal brew, they also place a premium on what the beer says about them. Amongst the 25-34 age group, representing the segment’s heaviest users, 70% say that the brand of beer says a lot about you and 66% say the style does the same. This strong sense of self has manifested itself in record sales for the craft beer industry, as Mintel estimates sales of craft beer (including craft-style offerings) will reach $20 billion in 2014, more than doubling sales of five years ago.

By 2017 there will be 204 million connected TV devices linked to the Internet and able to deliver apps to viewers, more than double the projected number of U.S. Internet households. These devices include video game consoles, streaming media players, Blu-ray Disc players and TVs. According to the latest NPD Connected Intelligence Connected Home Forecast, ownership of connected TV devices is expected to grow 100 per cent by 2017.

Great Britain led the developed markets in food service traffic gains and the still young Russian food service market continued to increase consumer visits in the first quarter of 2014 compared to same period year ago, a report by The NPD Group has shown. Improved consumer confidence and mild weather helped Germany’s food service sector - which has had several quarters of traffic declines - gain visits in the quarter, according to NPD’s global food service market research.

While public perception focuses on younger drinking issues, new research from Mintel reveals that the other end of the generational spectrum is a definite cause for concern, as the research highlights excessive drinking among Britain’s over-65s. Indeed, as many as one in five (18%) over 65s drink at home on a daily basis. By contrast, just one in ten (11%) consumers aged 18-24 are daily in-home drinkers, with those least likely to be daily drinkers aged 45 to 54 (at 8%).

Overall sales for men’s accessories grew 9 per cent to reach $13.6 billion in the 12 months ending May 2014 (June’13 – May’14), according to The NPD Group, a leading global information company. Of the six categories tracked by NPD for men’s accessories, all experienced dollar sales increases over this time period.
