Amtrak train derailed in southwestern Kansas early this morning, injuring at least 32 passengers, officials said.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight local time about 20 miles west of Dodge City, Kansas, Amtrak said in a statement.

Amtrak Southwest Chief Train 4 was traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago when it derailed on a track owned and maintained by BNSF Railway, a freight railroad network, according to Amtrak. The train was carrying about 131 passengers and a crew of 14.

Amtrak Crash: Passengers Recall Panic, Fear After Train Derailment

Amtrak said it is working with BNSF to investigate the cause of the accident, which is unknown at this point. The National Transportation Safety Board is also sending a team of investigators.

Of at least 32 injured passengers taken to hospitals in rural Kansas, 29 were discharged later this morning, with two reported in critical condition. An earlier statement from the Gray County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Department said one person was transported from the scene of the crash to a hospital by helicopter.

Buses have taken uninjured passengers to a community center to work on travel arrangements in order to reach their final destinations. The Red Cross and other emergency agencies helped those on site.

The train, which consisted of two locomotives and nine cars, was traveling at an unknown speed when it crashed. Seven of the nine cars derailed, according to the Gray County Sheriff's Department.

Last May, an Amtrak train derailed near Philadelphia, killing eight people and seriously injuring dozens of others when it went faster than the recommended speed around a curve.

A rogue pitch-invading bull has sent junior soccer players scurrying for cover in southeast Queensland.

The season-opening under-15 match between Sunbury and Fraser Flames in Maryborough may have been billed as high stakes — but not of this kind.

At one point, the charging bovine goes within metres of collecting a young player as it sprinted across the field before putting spectators on edge.

"Holy dooly — he just tried to charge on a soccer game!" one child can be heard yelling at the end of the video.

Witness Ryan Devenish, who was there to see his nephew play, told the Fraser Coast Chronicle he first thought a kangaroo had jumped on to the field.

"As I turned to see for myself I noticed the young bull standing about 15 feet away from us," he told the Chronicle.

"In a split-second it looked at me and charged about five feet in my direction before stopping, turning around, and heading back in to where it came from.

I just don’t get it!’ It was February 2014 and Prince William was venting his frustration with his aides in customary style. His carefully planned announcement about the need to curb illegal poaching had produced less than flattering headlines – not least because William and Harry had only just returned from a trip to Cordoba in Spain to shoot deer and wild boar.

Of course, as William pointed out – seething with incomprehension – the two things were completely different. The timing was unfortunate, and eminently avoidable, whatever the technical rights and wrongs. But William, it is said, is rarely wrong.

The episode was just the start of a lengthening series of PR blunders culminating in last week’s furore over the family’s secret skiing trip to the exclusive French resort of Courchevel.

And some are pinning the blame on a new, young generation of courtiers and advisers thought to be incapable of saying ‘No’ to the headstrong 33-year-old.

It is a rather worrying turnaround for the Duke of Cambridge and his photogenic wife, a couple who could once do no wrong.

There was another media storm last March when the Duke visited the Xishuangbanna nature reserve in China. Had he read The Mail on Sunday, he would have known that some elephants were being made to play football, while others were seen with legs in shackles.
