As it's the 1st of May here is a new houseplant profile. For no particular reason other than it looks elegant and is still popular after many years introducing the Weeping Fig or Ficus Benjamina. Who has or had one of these plants in their homes?  http://www.ourhouseplants.com/plants/weeping-fig #weepingfig #ficus
The Weeping Fig or Ficus Benjamina is a very popular and easy houseplant. It can drop its leaves if not cared for correctly but other than that it's a great house guest

Two articles in as many days, we have been busy bees this month! Keeping with the Umbrella theme from yesterday - please  welcome the Umbrella Grass to our collection. Quite an unusual plant as it's almost impossible to over water which is great news if you tend to do this. A perfect combination of being simple to care for, unusual and attractive. #umbrellagrass #cyperus

A guide this month! Put under the "advanced" section, but hopefully helpful to anyone looking to learn more about different indoor potting mixes, because root health for our house plants is very important - http://www.ourhouseplants.com/guides/house-plant-potting-soils
When it comes to house plant potting mixes there are lots to pick from, including Peat, Manure, Topsoil and Compost. We'll tell you a little about each and how to use them successfully.

The Peperomia is a very common and easy to grow houseplant, with quite basic care requirements. With many different varieties to pick from it's an ideal houseplant if you don't have much space. #peperomia #houseplants

It's Summer at last and we were inspired by an exotic Tillandsia known as the Pink Quill Plant or Blue Flowered Torch (hopefully easy to see how it got it's common name!). They are popular plants in supermarkets and last quite a while too! http://www.ourhouseplants.com/plants/tillandsia-cyanea-lindenii #tillandsia

Has it really been May since we wrote a brand new article? That just won't do - So enter the towering, or sometimes compact, Umbrella Plant (Schefflera). Maybe a little old fashioned, but still grown in our homes and places of work, and for good reason. This is an easy care plant that needs minimal fuss to do well. #umbrellaplant

It's a bit of a long article this month, but it's sure as hell written about a snappy snap houseplant - The Venus Flytrap. Although quite difficult to keep around for longer than a few months (although certainly possible) it's been entertaining kids and adults alike since 1968 (approx).

http://www.ourhouseplants.com/plants/venus-flytrap
The Venus Flytrap or Dionaea muscipula is one of the most popular carnivorous houseplants. It can be difficult to look after but all you need for success is to follow its care requirements correctly.

Story

Our House Plants is packed full of information, Care Tips, How to Guides and Plant Profiles.
Introduction
Plants have always been popular, and for as long as people have had homes they have made their way inside. House plants appear everywhere from your own home to public buildings, with lots of different fashions and styles over the years. The plant landscape is constantly changing which can make them as exciting as the plants growing outside

Despite changing trends, varieties and presentation one thing is always consistent and that is the majority of people do enjoy, find pleasure and take satisfaction from plants. Perhaps this comes from an innate desire within us to cultivate. Or maybe we just think they are pretty awesome to have around.

Whatever the reason, we wanted to make a website that brings everything together and gives house plant owners tips and knowledge. We want you to enjoy the hobby to the best of your ability and take pride in doing it, hopefully our website helps with this.
