Mother, mother
there's too many of you crying.
Brother, brother, brother
there's far too many of you dying.

Father, father
we don't need to escalate.
See war is not the answer
for only love can conquer hate.

New research paper on global water usage:

"China, India, and the United States have the largest national water footprints. About 30 percent of China’s footprint comes from water pollution—in fact, it accounts for fully one quarter of global water pollution. The numbers get more interesting when you calculate per capita water footprints. Here, the US is among the very highest at about 2,800 m3/yr per person (the global average is about 1,400 m3/yr). The authors compare this to the UK, which checks in at close to 1,300 m3/yr (despite having a lot of rain to work with).

Per capita water footprints depend on two things: consumption patterns and water intensity of the good being consumed. An example that helps account for the difference between the UK and US is beef consumption and production. The average American eats about 95 pounds of beef each year—four and a half times the global average. In the UK, the average person eats less than half as much beef as Americans do. On top of this, beef raised in the US uses nearly 50 percent more water."

Hunters, fishers, and other 'sportsmen' are beginning to speak out as they realize that all outdoors enthusiasts are front-line faces in the publicity war over basic global warming science.

"But the broader point is clear: every item on this list has imposed costs on third parties. Technologies with clear non-infringing uses have been pushed out of the market. Innocent parties have had their websites shut down. A woman was arrested for filming a birthday party that happened to occur in a movie theater. Angel investor Paul Graham has said he avoids funding music-related startups because the record labels are "effectively a rogue state with nuclear weapons." And most of these enforcement efforts costs taxpayer money."

"most of us are not anti-copyright; we just think enough is enough, and that the menu of enforcement tools Congress has already given to copyright holders is more than sufficient. We're tired of the constantly increasing copyright enforcement efforts because most of the costs of the "mistakes along the way" fall on innocent consumers, innovators, and taxpayers."

Pink Floyd has decided to release their full catalog of music through Spotify, once "Wish You Were Here" reaches 1,000,000 listens.

I already have their full catalog - but truly, I think it's important that everyone in the world has access to this music.

eNeSAy was listening to content of phonecalls from journalists, foreign aid workers, members of the military, and other innocent Americans. In 2008 two employees came forward to say that there was widespread abuse completely unrelated to terrorism cases:

Faulk says he and others in his section of the NSA facility at Fort Gordon routinely shared salacious or tantalizing phone calls that had been intercepted, alerting office mates to certain time codes of "cuts" that were available on each operator's computer.

"Hey, check this out," Faulk says he would be told, "there's good phone sex or there's some pillow talk, pull up this call, it's really funny, go check it out. It would be some colonel making pillow talk and we would say, 'Wow, this was crazy'," Faulk told ABC News.

I would really, really, really hate to be President Obama right now. Then again, he has no one to blame but himself.

He'll be meeting with the Chinese President for the next 2 days, and the plan was to talk about China's use of hackers. You couldn't have picked a more perfect moment to pull the President's pants down, Mr. Greenwald.

The eN.eS.Ay. has full and unfettered access to the content (what you say) of all emails, skype calls, file downloads, social networking posts/messages, uploaded videos, uploaded photos, and any and all data stored online with a U.S. internet company. This has been speculated for some time, and now there is hard proof.

You are supposed to trust that the govt. only snoops into the private data of American citizens if one of their contacts is "suspected" of being outside the United States.

Let's hope we never have another Nixon?

What are the true costs of doing business? It turns out the answer depends on who you ask - BP execs only see costs as what they're legally required to repay individuals who can't be squashed in court, while the men and women who depend on a healthy gulf ecosystem see very different kinds of costs affecting their bottom line.

Is it fair to assume that our court system will do a perfect job balancing damages and compensation?

Is it morally just to even let problems on this scale be resolved by humans, and transfers of money?

At what point do we decide as a society that the health of the environment and the people who directly depend on it have never been treated fairly, and will continue to be treated unfairly?

There is no justice for the land, no not in the courts of man.
