Japan space scientists make wireless energy breakthrough

Japanese scientists have succeeded in transmitting energy wirelessly, in a key step that could one day make solar power generation in space a possibility, an official said Thursday.

Researchers used microwaves to deliver 1.8 kilowatts of power—enough to run an electric kettle—through the air with pinpoint accuracy to a receiver 55 metres (170 feet) away.

While the distance was not huge, the technology could pave the way for mankind to eventually tap the vast amount of solar energy available in space and use it here on Earth, a spokesman for The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (+JAXA) said.

"This was the first time anyone has managed to send a high output of nearly two kilowatts of electric power via microwaves to a small target, using a delicate directivity control device," he said.

JAXA has been working on devising Space Solar Power Systems for years, the spokesman said.

Solar power generation in space has many advantages over its Earth-based cousin, notably the permanent availability of energy, regardless of weather or time of day.

While man-made satellites, such as the International Space Station, have long since been able to use the solar energy that washes over them from the sun, getting that power down to Earth where people can use it has been the thing of science fiction.

But the Japanese research offers the possibility that humans will one day be able to farm an inexhaustible source of energy in space.

Story
Introduction
Hello erveryone! I'm from Germany in the middle of Europe. I'm your average single 1986 born guy from next door who's gotten a bit tall and particularly lanky. I like old cars built up to 1990 (specifically VW) and am not afraid of getting my hands dirty repairing them - I own four of them. Unlike that I'm an educated electrician and working as such. In addition to that nice cars I like beautiful girls which can of course be younger than that, but don't have to. I don't prefer any special type of girl, but a good maintained shape would be nice. Small, big or fake bust is not so important to me, it only needs to fit to the reminder of the body. Hair color doesn't matter, it's lengh needs to fit the owner, as well as her style of clothing. I'm not afraid of tattoos, I even think that if done right a well done ink only adds up to the beauty of its female owner, even facial ones. Unfortunately I don't have any tattoos myself, but I think you need the right body to wear them, which I don't. Origin and skin color are no terms to be discussed of. People come from where they come from and I'm open to girls from everywhere. Well, communication should be possible, so at least English is a requested language, German would be a nice addition though (both with dictionary allowed, if needed ;-)). Okay, that was the outer part, but beauty comes also from the inside. I like girls to be warmhearted, wholehearted, friendly, nice to be around and I like to meet them at eye level (what doesn't mean that they have to be physically as tall as I am). Manners are mandatory. The screaming, bitchy type of girl whose life is a constant party and who thinks she is better than all others is totally wrong at my side. I'm not into parties, but if not too excessive, I might just jump over my shadow. What a girl does for a living isn't all that important to me, as long as I could live with it. That point therefore needs to be looked upon specifically. I like her to earn her own money and not relying on my finances, although I'm far away from being rich. I am not afraid of children, as I want to have my own sometime in the future. I like to treat a girl I think worth if it like a gentleman. Not actually wearing a tuxedo all the time, but you know how. As for my profile pic...let's say I'm working on it... Quick description: White male, height: 1,92m (6ft 3.6in), weight: 74kg (163lb), hair color: dirty blonde (short), eye color: grey, wearing glasses. Feel free to contact me if you want to, maybe we can get a nice chat going.
