It's an exciting day on campus as the children prepare for their annual craft fair this weekend. They're treating us to homemade ice cream (in holiday flavors) this year! We can't wait to try it!

We’re celebrating a special delivery from the Student Government Assocation at MUSC’s College of Pharmacy! Thank you so much for helping the children in our shelters and homes forget their problems on Christmas morning. This is the group's 15th year making the holidays special for the children in our homes and shelters, and we're so grateful!

November is National Runaway Prevention Month. Our friends at 1-800-RUNAWAY have great tips for adults looking for help with keeping teenagers safe.

Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) operates a shelter for runaway and homeless teens called The Beacon. If you are under the age of 18 and seeking shelter in the Charleston area, please call our 24-Hour Assistance Hotline at (843) 266-5270 for help.

Protecting childhood. Preparing for adulthood.

Founded as the Charleston Orphan House in 1790, Carolina Youth Development Center’s eight programs are dedicated to providing shelter and support services to children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, and to helping these and other at-risk youth in the community become successful adults. Together, these programs serve more than 600 children annually.

The Mission of the Carolina Youth Development Center is to assist children in reaching their full potential as healthy and well-adjusted individuals by delivering a continuum of prevention, assessment, intervention, and treatment services.
