I'm moving soon and the building inspector subcontracted a septic service to check my septic tank. They found that the high water alarm wasn't functioning (already knew) and that my septic tank needed to be pumped. They quoted $550 to change the alarm and $325 to pump the tank. The major issue here is it took all of a half hour to swap in a new alarm ($150) and the septic tank was pumped a little over a year ago. If they are getting $400 for half an hour of work, I'm in the wrong damn business... bunch of crooks.

Stopped by the pawn shop today and found some drill bits. I had to dig around in a bin of old tools to find these guys but they are all high quality HSS bits that just needed a good sharpening. Not bad for $8.

Got tired of trying to make sure my die was square when trying to thread something so I built a die holder.

Well, that's $50 down the tubes. I still have all my fingers but I'm going to need to change my pants. I'm not sure what happened... It's a non-ferrous metal cutting blade and I was cutting a piece of aluminum rod when it kicked and threw a chunk across my garage.

The Proto box I ordered from onlinemetals.com arrived today and I'm very happy with the contents. For $40 you get a 20lb assortment of aluminum scraps that are perfect for machining projects. I will probably be ordering a few more of these in the future.

Decided to build a machinist hammer today because the one I got from Harbor Freight is a piece of junk. So far the handle is complete (except for threading) and there stock for the head is cut. I'll probably finish it up later this week when I catch up on my honey do list. 😃

Found a handy universal bracket for mounting a smart phone to a camera tripod on Thingiverse. Now I can record some of my projects with my old Galaxy S3

More machining practice. Today I worked on making a taper. Turned out pretty good although I need to figure out why it threaded a little crooked.
