Apple’s Night Shift Feature Could Help iPhone Users Sleep Apple is testing a new feature that could help users catch some Zs. On Monday, the company released the beta version of iOS 9.3, which will include a feature called Night Shift. It does something similar to f.lux, an app that adjusts the color of a device’s screen according to its location and the time of day.Why would that be helpful? Because there have been several studies indicating that exposure to blue light before you sleep may keep you up at night. F.Lux removes that blue light in the evening, so screens have a warmer glow, which supposedly helps users sleep more easily. Night Shift, which is being tested in the new iOS beta, would do something similar.“Night Shift uses your iOS device’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location,” the company wrote. “Then it automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum, making it easier on your eyes. In the morning, it returns the display to its regular settings. Pleasant dreams.”Apple hasn’t announced when iOS 9.3 will be released to the public, but it is allowing people to test the beta version of the operating system.
