Disability rights advocates marched to the State Capitol earlier this week to urge lawmakers to increase the budget for community-based programs serving individuals with developmental disabilities. California currently has 21 regional centers assisting approx 280,000 people. But since the Great Recession in 2007, some of these services and programs have been drastically slashed or eliminated. http://bit.ly/1R44TBC   #KeepThePromise

Saurin Choksi, co-host of +Fuse's new late night pop culture show, "White Guy Talk Show," chats about comedy, crashing on couches, and catching his big break in the Big Apple.

"I don't think that would have happened if I hadn't sort of made the leap of faith...where I'm going to quit my job and give it everything I've got."

My latest feature for +NBC News Asian America:
The asterisk punctuating Saurin Choksi's new talk show title, "White Guy* Talk Show," gives a hint of what viewers should expect - specifically, a ...

If you don't know much about California's Bay Delta, let this be your primer.
Northern Californians think Southern Californians want to drain it dry. Southern Californians don't even know where the Delta is, much less why it's important.

My latest for @NBCNews:

"As a South Asian female graffiti artist, I see myself as another warrior of this culture - fighting a great battle to preserve our culture and share our story and style with the world." ~Nisha Sembi
Nisha Sembi captures the sights, sounds, and memories from her Motherland through a can of spray paint and the pages of her tattered black book. For Sembi, t...

My latest for KCET: #AB80 would create one of the first interagency task forces in CA to improve outcomes for young boys and men of color.

"We must bring all the key agencies together and have a systematic discussion on what's preventing our men and women of color from thriving. AB 80 is the vehicle to make this happen," Assembly member Campos told KCET in an email.
In the wake of the Michael Brown and Ezell Ford shootings, California lawmakers are urging for the need to improve the futures of young boys and men of color.

The Lanterman Act was put into law in 1969, highlighting a list of services and rights for persons with developmental disabilities. AB 1687 would add a provision to the existing law by ensuring a "prompt investigation" for victims of alleged abuse.
An additional layer of protection for individuals with developmental disabilities has been added to the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act, a 1969 law that guarantees equal access to services and rights for persons with developmental disabilities.

"This is a bill whose time has come. We feel people are talking more and more about death and the options at the end of their lives and what they want their death to be, so it's a really important issue that is the topic of significant public discussion and debate." "But #cancer doesn’t seek to make amends. It seeps through every crevice of your life and attempts to crush your spirit at any given time."
My grandfather in India was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer. Over the past few months, his health has significantly deteriorated. He has gone through several rounds of chemotherapy and ...

I spoke with #LAUSD District 3 School Board candidate Ankur Patel for more on his campaign promises. If elected, Patel could be the first South Asian to serve on the Los Angeles Board of Education.

Smartphones and tablets manufactured in California after July 1, 2015, must be equipped with a default "kill switch" option to address the  issue of mobile theft.

Retailers who don't comply will be subject to fines of up to 2500 per device.

What do you think of this new law?
To address mobile device theft, a new law mandates that all new smartphones and tablets manufactured after July 1, 2015, and sold in California must be equipped with a default "kill switch." That technology would render devices inoperable to unauthorized users and require the owner's permission to be reactivated.
