As a follow up to my post last week, today I received another mysterious parcel in the post. It contained the items pictured here; the necklace was wrapped in the tissue, and tied with twine.

What could I have in common with one of the Gods of Gaming?
I got some very interesting mail this week. A letter arrived from Canada, with no return address. Inside, there was another, much older envelope also addressed to me. This one was from England, and postmarked 2000 and stamped RECEIVED UNDELIVERABLE. This was the first strange thing--it had my current correct address, but I didn't live here in 2000. In fact, this address didn't exist in 2000.

Inside the second envelope was a letter without signature. It said that the sender was in possession of some various banned works and wanted to make sure that they weren't entirely suppressed, and so sent me a copy of one of them. (The writer implied that others were getting copies as well, and that maybe there were more packages coming to me later. It was unclear.)

And then with the letter is what appears to be the script of a short play entitled "The King in Yellow." I haven't read the play yet, but I'll probably do so tonight when I've got a bit of free time.

Curious.

I am eagerly awaiting this film!
"The first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's latest, Inherent Vice, is now online!

Marking the first-ever adaptation of one of Pynchon's novels, Inherent Vice begins when when private eye Doc Sportello's ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin... well, easy for her to say.

Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Jena Malone and Joanna Newson, Inherent Vice hits theaters on December 12."

Very nice.
Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, arguably the most recognizable piece by the famous ukiyo-e painter, has been recreated by artist João Victor of Brazil with a modern, pop culture twist.

These were the first role-playing games I ever saw. No one I knew played RPGs back then, but I was mail ordering SPI board games from The Compleat Strategist in NYC, and saw these in their catalog. (Yes, I ordered them blind, not even really knowing what a role-playing game was.) They arrived in the same shipment, giving them a tie to the title of #myfirstRPG, but M!M! was the first I ever played.

This homeowner's response to her bigoted neighbors makes me very happy.
