I'm never gonna stop banging this drum! GROW FOOD, not lawns! Or at least grow fewer lawns.

Why does it matter? Read on about how Nebraska has a front-lawn revolution going down.

Please remember that reading/liking/SHARING these posts helps me finance my travels! Thank you so much!

If this column gets ONE renter to buy insurance, I'll feel great about it. You NEED insurance if you're a renter. In fact, you're likely MORE at risk for fire and flood as a renter, and you are NOT covered under your landlord.

Remember -- liking/sharing/reading these posts of mine will help me to fund my travels. Thank you! :D

ICYMI, this was one I enjoyed writing. Funny, I had all these things and now I've given them up. Feels weird.

Please remember that reading/liking/sharing this will help me fund my adventures. Thanks!

So I'm selling everything over the next six weeks and by September 28th, I'm officially into "living my life dream" mode as I say goodbye to friends and family in Vancouver, then leave to travel the world for five years.

Only 4 years ago I was begging banks for money so I could restart my life. So how did I make my dream life a reality?

I worked for it.

Read on!
In 40 days, I start a five-year adventure of a lifetime. Despite being crippled by debt, it's come to life in less than three years. How? Read on.

Woot! My cookbook got a rave in The Province.
I'm usually pretty happy with a cookbook if I get one go-to recipe out of it. You know, the sort of dish you make for yourself, make for guests, and just keep making until you don't even need the cookbook to do it any more. It just becomes part of your repertoire.

Are you still living in the last century? Have you considered adding Bluetooth tech to your home? If I wasn't giving up my home, there's a couple things here I'd be going for!

Please read/like/share my BuildDirect content to help me fund my travels. Thanks!

A reminder! This is something I'm personally looking forward to about travelling, because with my life consumed by work in the last two years, I have been having very FEW experiences, and that is not helpful on the "happiness" front.  But soon my life will be filled with new experiences every single day.

Are you getting enough experiences?

By reading/liking/sharing these articles, you help fund my travels. Thank you!!

My latest on BuildDirect. The season might be nearly over, but here's great reasoning for why it's not too early to plan for next year.

Remember, reading/liking/SHARING my work really helps support my travel funds! Thank you!

Yeah, I'm loaded with squash, zucchinis, pears, apples, tomatoes...  I'm trying to eat more veggies at each meal, so harvest couldn't be better timed.

Science fiction is coming to life and the first design of a potential city of 7,000 for life on the sea is taking shape. How long before we live on the ocean? What will it take?
This is another of my posts that you can like/read/share and it'll support my efforts for travelling abroad. Thanks, guys!

Rugs, baby! Buy them well and they'll last decades, like these two did. I was with my parents when I was a kid and just sold 'em after nearly 35 years for enough to pay for three weeks of life in Europe.

How do ya like them apples? Here's how to care for YOURS.

My friend wrote a Facebook update and mentioned she was on a quest for a bathmat set, it unleashed a slew of commentary from many folks. I started thinking about bathmats and thought, hey, there's an interesting topic. Holy divisive, Batman!

Don't forget -- reading, liking, and sharing my work helps keep me paying for my travels! Thanks.

Story
Tagline
Writer and wisecracker from Vancouver, Canada.
Introduction
Found north of the 49th, in the Vancouverish hinterlands of Canuckistan, I'm a writer for hire, a happy editing lackey in the television industry, and a general wisecracker.

Blogging since 2004, I've tackled every topic from sex to getting struck by lightning (not me, some unfortunate bastard), and you can find that writing at  CuntingLinguist.com. (Ooh, nasty.)

If you need some snark in your day, my Twitter feed gives me an outlet and keeps me sane, as SmuttySteff.

Sometimes I blog about the food I cook, which is almost always tasty, and usually edible by humans, and that can be found at SmuttyEats.

I invite anyone who'd like to follow me to do so, but I don't promise a follow-back. I'm using Google+ for my sake, and think you should too. Thanks for reading!

I'm usually pretty happy with a cookbook if I get one go-to recipe out of it. You know, the sort of dish you make for yourself, make for gue

I've lived in a TPM property for about 2.5 years now and will be leaving soon. My time has not been perfect because I had a couple mice and some bugs and stuff, but that's just part of living in an old building by a park. Their RESPONSES were wonderful. I've never complained about anything and NOT had TPM show up to deal with it SAME DAY. Problems WILL happen with rentals, but responsiveness like that is a pretty rare thing. I've found that TPM were reasonable in every situation, and they've been very easy to work with in my time here and have always been respectful in their communications. While the building isn't gleaming and new, TPM demand a minimum standard of maintenance on buildings, regardless of what owners might want to let slide, and as a result TPM has never overlooked anything that has needed a repair, and it's been done quickly and without hassle. This includes sink repairs (put a new sink in), replacing my toilet flapper when the water kept running, and so forth. They've also never entered without my permission, and never given anything less than 24 hours' notice for entry, which might be the law but isn't the case everywhere I've lived. With over 20 years of apartment rentals under my belt, I've found TPM to be some of the best managers I've ever lived under, and don't hesitate to recommend them.
