New Artist: David Porteous-Butler at Affordable Art.
David Porteous-Butler was born in North London in 1945 and his childhood was spent in and around Highgate. He settled in Suffolk in 1978.
David studied in London under the late Sir Kyffin Williams RA and Anthony Green RA before being offered a place at the Royal College of Art. David is truly a protégé of Sir Kyffin Williams RA and remained close to him throughout his life, sharing his fundamental belief that drawing and draughtsmanship are a vital part of the artist’s craft.
Like his mentor, he has a passion for the vitality of the landscape and changing light around him. Suffolk provides much inspiration and the English countryside is a true love, although he has also worked extensively in Southern Europe including time in France and Italy. Working with a limited palette, he is always faithful to the truth in what he sees.
David was one of the artists chosen to paint the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant in 2012 and is currently in Australia working on several commissions including painting the Melbourne Cricket Ground during this winter’s Ashes series.
David’s latest paintings are now on display and can be purchased directly from the gallery or by telephone

Philip Stoner's Jewellers Designs Mayor's Chain
After four weeks of voting and more than 6,800 votes cast, in November the new Leeds Children’s Mayor was announced as Charlotte Williams from Rufford Park Primary School in Yeadon.

In one of her first official engagements, Charlotte accompanied the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Thomas Murray, to a ceremony at Phillip Stoner’s prestigious Victoria Quarter boutique. There she was presented with her own Chain of Office, designed and handcrafted onsite by Phillip Stoner’s own master craftsmen, Graham Mathers.

Every section of the Chains, made from twists of sterling silver, was carved and engraved by hand and will be worn by the Leeds Children’s Mayor for years to come. Managing Director, Jonathan Stoner, said: “It’s an honour to be involved in creating a piece of history for Leeds and as an independent, family-run jeweller, we’re thrilled that the Council continues to show their support for local businesses.”

Phillip Stoner has a long established relationship with the Lord Mayor’s Office in #Leeds City Council. In 2002 the jeweller was entrusted to restore The Great Mace of the City of Leeds and the Lord Mayor’s 18ct gold Chain of Office, a painstaking process that took more than four weeks. After completing the task to the highest standard, the jeweller was then asked to produce a new gold Chain of Office for the Deputy Lord Mayor, a replica of the original, which was thought to have been made around 1840.
