Osteopathy can trace their beginnings to the mid 1800’s and is an allopathic form of medicine treating the musculoskeletal system to reduce symptoms focusing on diagnosis and treatment of each person as a whole. They emphasize wellness and lifestyle management as a means to achieve optimal health. One unique aspect of training is in osteopathic manipulations. Much like a chiropractor, your osteopathic practioner can help you with your aches and pains by giving you and adjustment!

Acupuncture has been practiced in China for over 4,000 years. Qualified practitioners insert tiny needles beneath the superficial layers of the skin with intentions of regulating various body systems. A western explanation for how acupuncture works is that it stimulates the central nervous system to release chemicals into the bloodstream, influencing the body in positive ways. Recently, there has been a lot of anecdotal evidence supporting the idea that acupuncture can be very helpful for reducing back pain.

What can a dietician do for you? A dietician has specialized training in nutrition and they are able to prescribe diets for various purposes. That could be for helping a diabetic learn to manage blood sugar or for helping an athlete to achieve a performance goal. A dietician can also help the average, healthy individual meet their weight loss goals by educating and prescribing a balanced diet that will provide nutrient dense, lower calorie foods.

Tip of the day
Always carry a flashlight in your car. It is important to always have a flashlight on hand in your car, preferably the type that does not require batteries. You never know when you might need one. Keep it in your glove compartment or in the console between seats. You would be better off not keeping the flashlight in the trunk; in the event of an accident you might be unable to retrieve it.

Tip of the day
Use ICE numbers. ICE numbers are in case of emergenc...y phone numbers numbers and contact information that should be entered into everyone’s cell phone. Add one or two ICE contacts this could be a family member, close friend or doctor and label them as such, ICE: mom, ICE: home. This gives others the ability to get information about you and to your family in the event that you are sick or injured. Ideally your ICE contact should know your basic medical information, such as blood type and allergies and be able to help emergency services make decisions if needed. https://www.facebook.com/BetaHealthClinic
