Looking forward to being a Panelist, Expert Advisor and Judge as part of the Oakland Sustainability Jam this weekend...part of a network of Sustainability Jam event happening globally!
The Oakland Sustainability Jam hopes to capture, record, and share the strategic, creative, and collaborative work leading up to our Jam as well during the event itself. As the Jam approaches, we'll be posting updates here about our own process and preparations as well as Jam Recaps following each day's activities. We'll also share any helpful tools, resources, and insights that Jammers may use to contribute to their team's product or ...

"In 2025, Oakland opens up all its iconography—city logo, stationary, all official uniforms (police, fire, etc), etc—and allows any Oakland resident to create, collaborate and vote on designs." — What do you guys think of this idea? Click through to support it, ask questions, and/or refine it!

Here's a quick blog post I wrote a year ago about "Penance," a Japanese TV series that's screening as part of the SFIFF, tonight in Berkeley and Sunday and next week in SF, (tickets here: http://prod3.agileticketing.net/websales/pages/info.aspx?evtinfo=53916~8781fb85-6bb2-474d-a97d-cec76d1b8c32&epguid=db9c7f13-edc8-489f-bc28-5aa111f9970e ). I have a slightly more in-depth analysis of the first episode and its subtext that wi be up soon as well.

I'm not completely sure, on pretty much a daily basis I'm cross-referencing my schedule with the fest's and seeing what's playing at PFA. Bummed that I missed Leviathan there, but it looks like it's playing in SF on 5/9.  I'm definitely going to this though: http://festival.sffs.org/education-programs/salons/

I’m gleeful to announce the launch of http://seahack.org, a directory of ways to participate in sea exploration!
An international competition for elementary through college level students to design and build underwater remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) to tackle missions modeled after scenarios from the ocean workplace. This year's competition theme highlights the role that ROVs play in exploring and ...

Hello friends, especially those not in the Philippines,

I know times are tight, and the holidays are around the corner, but consider this a personal plea to hit you up for cash. The recent super-typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda has absolutely devastated the Philippines, and the full extent of the catastrophe has yet to be seen. Yes, good vibes and prayers are appreciated, but help in the form of cold hard cash works quite well too. Please, please give what you can -- a little will go a long way.

I'm not here to debate relative overhead costs, political agendas, etc., but I'm posting an NBC News article below that prominently features the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON), whom I know and trust, and to whose disaster relief fund I donated.
Filipino Americans and local organizations across the United States on Saturday were organizing relief efforts for friends and relatives at home after one of the strongest storms ever recorded swept over the Philippines early Friday. Typhoon Haiyan flattened hundreds of hom …

Big fan of this film; one night only engagement at a great venue.

Compared to Kubrick, Hitchcock and David Lynch, I AM A GHOST is a chilling ghost story told from the point of view of "the ghost"." Emily, a troubled spirit, haunts her own house every day, wondering why she can't leave. With the help of Sylvia, a clairvoyant hired to rid the house of spirits, Emily is forced into a 'patient/therapist' relationship, uncovering disturbing mysteries about her past that may help her move on to "the next place".

Winner of 3 Best Film awards and placed in over a dozen top ten lists worldwide, I AM A GHOST, the second film from San Francisco writer/director H.P. Mendoza, is finally here on the big screen, just in time for Halloween!

Introduction
I'm gonna try to use g+ a little more often and with more intention. If you follow me, let me know what kind of posts you'd be interested in so I can add you to the appropriate circles (I'm trying to err on the side of having too many).

General: News, politics, futures stuff, social issues, art projects and other projects I find interesting.

Films: Movie news, commentary, reviews, etc

Other entertainment: News and commentary about an assortment of nerdy things, comedy/comedians, culty tv shows, comics. A lot of what gets covered on the A.V. Club site.

Music: General non-rap music stuff

Rap music: Rap music news and commentary

Photos: Photos I took. (Sometimes others' photography that I enjoy)

Snapshots: This is the kind of stuff that people put on Facebook—pictures of events and other such things from my life.

Animals: Pictures and videos of animals I see around (at work, on Bart, etc) and my own dogs.

Food diary: Not sure if I'll really follow-through with this, but I'm experimenting with trying to take a picture of everything I eat (and see if that influences what I choose to eat, and whether or not I can stick to it).
