We got 4 varieties of garlic in the ground recently - our last planting for the winter. Here's a series of photos of the process -- some of them are on my website www.coolseasongardener.com, with commentary.

This is a garden cold frame I made that I call the Triangle Tunnel, based on a design I saw in community gardens in Portland, Oregon. It's small, light and super-easy to make -- you don't have to be a carpenter.
It's one of the DIY designs in my new book Cool Season Gardener: Extend the Harvest, Plan Ahead and Grow Vegetables Year Round (www.coolseasongardener.com), which is just being released this month!

Just pulled the last of my parsnips that had overwintered in the vegetable garden, snug under a straw mulch. Just in time, because I have started a lot of lettuce from seed, and that bed will be perfect for it. The parsnips (Cobham Improved Marrow) were in that bed a long time, but they were worth the wait!

Just launched a website for my forthcoming book Cool Season Gardening, and thought it's about time to try Google+ as well. Check out my first post on winter gardening.
