A while back I got a review copy of Wonderful Life with the Elements.

I hesitated to take it when offered because, well, there would be an expectation that I would review it. And what if I hated it? That would be awkward right?

Well, good news. It's an absolutely wonderful book. An oddly difficult to put down exposition of science artfully rendered.

The elements are rendered as little characters whose dress, style, and clothes all indicate something meaningful about their properties. Arrayed into the traditional periodic table that folds out from the back cover, they give an immediate and visceral look at how the elements relate to each other.

If you're a science nerd who still prizes your 20 year old copy of the CRC handbook, but also have an appreciation for art and whimsy, this is a book for you. Enjoy.
