I feel like I need to say a few words about Lou Reed, even if I was never a fan. Never bought any of his music. I simply didn't connect to the NYC skank 'n glam scene he was all about. And Andy Warhol disturbed me. (I never could separate the two in my mind.)
Anyways... getting to the point, and I do have one: the dear friends I've made because of and through music, the ones who in turn shaped my musical taste and knowledge in considerable ways, were all huge Lou Reed devotees. For them, rock music, at its essential best and development, was no more separable from Reed than from the Beatles. He was a rock and roll fundamental.
They always knew best. I just knew what I liked.
