"I have spent a lot of time talking about my past pain and how I allowed it to make me stronger. Currently, I’m struggling to tell my story because it’s still being written and I can’t clearly see the outcome.
I have had to struggle to smile while teaching others how to discover a reason to smile. The very words I have spoken, typed and shared have challenged me; but I choose to continue sharing my story because I’m committed to doing so. It’s easier to share when my struggles have been resolved or I at least have the answers and solutions for my current pain. Today, I don’t have many answers. In fact, with each day I seem to have more questions. I am facing unhappiness. I am in mourning. Bitterness, resentment and depression are banging on my heart’s door. It’s as if they are trying to force me to let them in. Many days, I don’t feel like fighting them but I do."

"Suicide is not a sign of weakness by any means. It’s a sign that someone tried everything that they knew to do and felt there were no more options. It’s what happens when one is tired — physically, mentally and emotionally.

Suicide is no one’s fault. It is a reminder that as humans we need to be more kind and more connected to one another. We expect people to hurt and suffer but eventually get over it. We expect people to handle their problems on their own. Our shoulders get tired.  Our ears get tired. It’s not because we’re cruel. We are human with limited understanding. We have our own problems. We can’t carry everyone’s problems. But do we carry enough?"

Perhaps, like me, you feel that you have to have solutions. And, like me, you have probably realized that they aren’t always readily available. I’d like to make a suggestion: you can always control your attitude (perception and response) and what you accept as definite truth. I talk a lot about living your best life and learning to thrive. However, there are times when we have to go back to the basics: survival. Life can hit us so hard that we fall to our knees and some kind of way end up on our back. Before we can gather the strength to use our pain to propel us forward (thrive), we have to figure out a way to get up and get our mind right...

"A few nights ago, a childhood friend was killed. She lost her life through gun violence. A hard-working mother and wife who didn’t deserve to die. It’s not fair. As I reflect on this tragedy, I also can’t help but think about who she was. It’s impossible to forget her character, her smile, and her warmth while thinking about her death. Although this experience is painful for her family and friends, if forces us to reflect on all the goodness of who she was. I am saddened by the loss but I find myself smiling when I reflect on the memories.

Life doesn’t come with a rulebook. It doesn’t come with guarantees. It does come with innumerable opportunities to find hope, peace, positivity and power. We have so many opportunities to rise up despite the circumstances. Life will demand that we cry. It will demand sadness. It will demand seasons of loss and loneliness. We will experience brokenness. But life also allows for laughter and friendship. Success and gain. Strength and tenacity. I choose to celebrate the balance. It’s not fair but it’s real. It’s something we can count on. Life will never give all bad. We will have good. There will be beautiful moments. We just have to be open to them."

Hope is often birthed out of extreme pain, hurt and confusion but it is 100% real. It is so beautiful. I have lived a life of hopelessness. I know what it's like to be in despair and to believe that I have no reasons worth living. I lived that way for years. Currently, I have good days and bad days but I refuse to give up on Hope. My wish for you is that you would fight for Hope, health and happiness. Mental, emotional and spiritual wellness are important - find yours. Fight to be in tune with YOU.

We change. We evolve. We learn. I’m still in the early stages of my Ministry. I have more work to do. I don’t want to forget that the things I’ve learned don’t make me better than anyone else. I may have more useful tools than others but we’re all fighting similar battles. We need one another. I need my community and I’m blessed to have them. I don’t live a selfish life. I give. I don’t always get from those I give to but I always get what I need from someone, somewhere and somehow. Life is truly a circle. You get what you put out. If you put out selfishness, spitefulness and bitterness you’re going to get all of those things back. When you put out hope and healing and openness you receive those things back. My journey is indescribable. I have taken some time to try to break it down for my readers and my community. I’ve wanted people to understand that becoming a survivor and a warrior is not something that happens overnight. It’s a continual process. But you can’t do it by yourself. You need accountability. You need honesty. You need willingness to fall down and get back up a thousand times or more.
