Strolling & shopping in a cluster of restored wharfside buildings, many from the early 1800s.- Google
"Our favorite spot down here still remains Beekman Beer Garden."
"Great place to explore, there was also free movie screenings during the summer."

So much potential, and so little in return... Amazing location, one of the best for the Summer time. Great sitting by the ocean. A view to the river, and to Queens and BK. But beside potential nothing much. Maybe an attraction for tourists, but nothing much to offer for NYC'S. Not even a cold corner to read a book by the water...

Ick. I've been here literally a dozen times and have yet to find anything interesting. The mall is badly designed and the stores are useless. It's difficult to get here. The restaurants are seemingly designed for tourists, with pedestrian tourist food and high prices. When it rains, the streets flood. Still, you might find yourself drawn here to catch a boat (the Ikea shuttle is a block away), visit a farmer's market or see an outdoor concert. It's almost not worth the trip and there's definitely nothing else of interest in the neighborhood.

the south street seaport has been a great area for years. right by the edge of manhattan you can go shop, go to the mall, grab a bite, take a boat ride, or even go to the museum there. the port also has an amazing view of dumbo, which is only a bridge away! during the summer there are movie screenings on the pier serving for a good spot to hang out with friends.

Great place to explore, there was also free movie screenings during the summer. The event planners had supplied chairs for the attendees. There was a bar nearby for people to get drinks and they provided free popcorn. Great experience.

Want some great photos? Then come on by. Other than that, this area has never seen comeback NY has hoped for. It was starting to get interesting, and then Sandy completely shut down most of the businesses here. Quiet area to live in though. Usually just opt to bike past it.

South Street Seaport a great spot to visit all year around. It offers a variety selection of shopping, dining and entertainment with a beautiful river views. The port locate along the Lower Manhattan Waterfront great to enjoy the view of the east river and it surrounding. It's perfect to sit by the deck outside relax and enjoy the view of east river and Brooklyn bridge.

Pier 17 closed as of today! Demolition to begin in October. The seaport area took a very big hit from Superstorm Sandy. The Howard Hughes corporation is redeveloping much of the area and tried the container retail pop-up method this summer. I only went a couple of times, but it seemed somewhat vibrant. They had free outdoor movies all summer on Fulton St with Free popcorn. It is part of their see/change marketing.
