AllCast Updates

New AllCast Receiver (link below) app! This will let you turn any Android device into an AllCast (and Mirror!) target.

There's also a new version of AllCast released. Changelog:

A buttload of Roku fixes and enhancements.

With Superuser, you can now cast Google Music to any AllCast device... Apple TV, DLNA, Roku, Xbox, etc. All from within the Play Music app. Go into AllCast settings to enable this feature, then use the Cast button within Play Music.

AllCast now functions as a wireless headset when casting! This feature is only available on Fire TV (pending Amazon App Store approval) and the AllCast receiver. Check out this video for a demo:

+Koushik Dutta  Any word on how the Play Music Casting should affect battery-life (in comparison to Chromecasting)
By the way, for me a reboot was necassary to get Play Music Casting to work, what was not stated in the app...
+Philip Sieder Reboot shouldn't have been necessary, AllCast should kill the play music process. I'll make a note of that.

The battery life should be just as good as Chromecasting.
Dang. Not compatible with my ancient Revue. Oh yeah, 4.1 and up required.
+Koushik Dutta Ok, interesting I even killed the Play Music app twice before the reboot and it did not work (on two different devices even)
Then for Play Music Casting: The phone only provides Controlling, while the renderer gets the  music directly from the cloud?
I think the answer is no but anyone know if its possible to use allcast with the now tv box in UK?
+Koushik Dutta Bug report: If I use Mirror to cast to the receiver app the image is cropped: not 9:16 but more like 8:16
Tried Casting something via Allcast: there are no cropping rpoblems
+Koushik Dutta  That could definitely open up the usefulness of the application if it were intended to be used with older devices (as +Kyle Davidson and others might want to do). Maybe an in app  version checker and disclaimer about limitations of older android versions could mitigate some negative feedback on the Play Store as related to "missing" features.
Play Services are needed to work with a Chromecast.
The receiver would be great for my Google TV. Is there any reason you couldn't modify a few things to get it working on Honeycomb?
+Nick Felker He mentioned above that he might consider modifying the version requirement to an older version. Let's see what he decides!
Would it be possible to get some kind of slideshow support for pictures. Having to click each picture one by one feels strange.
+Koushik Dutta

Has the headset thing have any future outside of the fire TV? (Samsung Smart TV to be precise)
+Philip Sieder +Koushik Dutta worked fine for me, no reboots needed to cast Play Music on 2 different Nexus devices. +Koushik Dutta thanks for the hard work, great apps. Makes my +ROCKI a bit closer to what I wanted it to be when I backed it on Kickstarter.
Your the fucking man! +Koushik Dutta
Plz Excuses my language (just so happy right now)
I installed Allcast Receiver on my mk808 Google mini TV stick and I accidentally pushed the cast button in my notification toggles (mirror) and I pushed it and connected my tv, and immediately my screen started casting to my TV.
I just want to say thank you so much, this is what I've been waiting for this.

My device is a Moto G 4.4.2 casting its screen to my mk808 4.2.2

+Koushik Dutta actually it happens with any photo, the reciver starts in landscape mode (even though i held the phone in portait) I believe it's the app itself that it's forced in landscape, is it possible? (both SGS and Nexus 4 do not have rotation lock, both CM 11)

happens from SGS to N4 and from N4 to SGS
+Gerard Umbert Correct, the app is forced landscape (like a game does). Most videos, photos, etc are 16:9... longer width than height.

You are quite literally... holding it wrong ;)

Is there a reason you want portrait? Rotation during playback, etc, can cause a bunch of problems.
yeah well... if I send a photo or screenshot that was taken vertically, the result on the reciver is a smaller picture since it's a portait image shown in a landscape mode...

+Koushik Dutta I'm not holding it wrong, i'm holding it as how I'm expecting to see the image xD
+Koushik Dutta i was just uploading a video to show you that.

Well, since u got it i'll stop the upload.

About unlocking rotation, would not be properly handled by the os?

It would be just like any other video/image player.
I'm just curious as to whether or not it would be possible to add Mirror support to the Allcast Receiver? I'm not exactly asking for it to happen, just curious as to if it's possible.
Android device into an AllCast (and Mirror!)  says here it's just already done, and Mirror detects the reciver... does not work for me tho
+Koushik Dutta +Gerard Umbert oh! Didn't see it in the Mirror description and glossed over it in this one due to all the excitement. Thanks both for answering and not being a dick about my ignorance! :)
Sorry to be dense, but does this mean that I can mirror from my KitKat 4.4 (HTC One M8) to Chromecast, sans rooting, via your app?
Hi +Koushik Dutta , is there any way to change the subtitles encoding on Allcast with the receiver app? I'm a brazilian so the subtitles on AllCast won1t show "ã" or "ç". thanks anyway! amazing job!
Here's another question. How would I get this onto an Ouya, considering it doesn't have Play Store access?
+Jon Lambert i don't know if possible but you could try sideloading the apk via ADB or something. Google it, i'm sure if it can be done there's a tuto on how to
Is there an equivalent for mac?
+Gerard Umbert yeah but do I download it from somewhere or am I expected to pull it from my phone after getting it off the Play Store?
I guess pulling it would be the easiest way to always have the latest version, dunno, +Koushik Dutta would be the one to actually answer that properly i guess
Is the "Headset" feature exclusive to Fire TV? Or will it work with any AllCast Receiver?

More specifically, if I use my Nexus 7 as the receiver, will I be able to use the headset feature?
+Koushik Dutta I installed the receiver on my 47" Google TV g3 running jellybean and tried the headset but volume only came from the phone, putting headphones in did nothing, sound still came out of my phone
Can you cast to more than one device at a time? I'm assuming no but wanted to ask as this would be a killer way at a Sonus like whole house audio setup.
+Koushik Dutta ah, now that I'm re-reading I see you had "and the AllCast receiver" after mentioning the FireTV. Woops.
Was excited to see "... turn any Android device into an AllCast and Mirror!) target" and wonder if there's still any hope for my Google TV (Sony NSZ-GS7 to be exact) left, then realized Play store says it's not compatible... is it the Android version holding it back?
+Koushik Dutta vizio co star says it has firmware version 3.2 and build U5.6. I am not sure if this translates to aparticular version of Android - honeycomb?
That the reason the receiver is shown in compatible for the co star?
Doesnt seem to be working between my S4 running 4.4.2 and galaxy tab 3 running 4.2. Whats the min reqd version?
Thanks +Koushik Dutta. Any indicators then as to why the s4 and tab running 4.2+ dont detect each other when trying the allcast transceiver pair? They are on same wifi.
Btw greatly appreciate you engaging with your "customers" in this fashion!
+Koushik Dutta loving AllCast Receiver! :D
Would you consider making it able to act as an airplay receiver as well?
And any chance of a pc AllCast receiver app?
+Koushik Dutta Hi, the update still hasn't cured the non casting of Photographs from Dropbox module!
I have an issue: I activated Google music casting, the device restarted and yet nothing works, my Apple TV isn't identified by Google music (while it is in the allcast app)..
+Koushik Dutta Thanks for the new Version. Is there a chance that you implement streaming flash videos from browser like vGet does?
+Koushik Dutta I noticed the Allcast receiver is not playing audio back to my phone when streaming to my amazon fire TV using note 2 and Nexus 7 what's the deal.
I want to know if allcast premium is worth the buy ????
AllCast premium is worth it if you have local content on your device and a DLNA renderer/apple tv/google tv with airtight installed.
In addition I used to be able to choose allcast as the "play in" option when trying to watch a web stream on S4 running 4.4.2. However that seems intermittent and now I dont get that option at all. In such cases I am having to use "Play To". Anyone else had the same problem? +Koushik Dutta any insight?
+Koushik Dutta Bugreport: When I check the option for GooglePlayMusic in the settings and accept the popup from your app then my smartphone reboots instantly and after that the cast button in playmusic still does not appear.
(SGS3,CM11 latest nightly)
Actually this app is not very stable at all is there a time frame +Koushik Dutta when it will be its extremely annoying when it fc on both my note 2 and nexus 7 more then once before it decides to stream also the headphone feature just added is rather spotty with sound cutting in and out not to mention it freezes my video stream when first activated.
No noticeable improvement with latest update just pushed out video stream starts and pauses or it just locks up completely headphone feature still won't work correctly audio and video out of sync with audio cutting in and out, I've had to reboot my fire tv 3 times over this and Allcast receiver for fire tv still hasn't been updated yet guess still waiting for amazon to approve it.
I can't seem to get it to install on my Google TV. Play store says not compatible.
No clue where to put this so I'm dropping it here. Allcast appears to see the XboxOne but after today's push of the new Xbox One OS ... the XboxOne won't play nice and play anything else. Just an FYI not a complaint.
+Ben Rosenberg works on my Xbox one. Try pulling the power from the console. Or toggling the play to feature.

You're not the only person to report this though.
+Koushik Dutta After the last Allcast update everything is working again. I didn't change anything or touch the XboxOne. Thanks.
I've been having a problem streaming with all cast to my roku is there anyway you can help me out
Al T
would be nice to enable portrait mirroring at some point unless too many bugs appear. I hav apps that do not support landscape and suited to portait mode. Thanks, great app!
