These signs can be summerised as a) For the first time in history, we are facing the same problems rather different problems which require diferent solutions that separate us from one another; and we are challenged to find solutions together; b) thanks to the meeting between Catholic theologians and Russian Orthodox refugee theologians in France before Vatican II, we share eucharistic ecclesiology, theosis, and a universe in which the good, the true, and beauty are transcendentals, , a common context in which we can discuss our differences; and c) we see we need each other, at least, some do.

The story of St Elizabeth Romanova, elder sister of the Tsarina, who became a sister after the assasination of her husband and worked in the slums.   She remained where she was in the 1917 revolution until she was arrested and buried alive in a mineshaft.  She could be heard singing God's praises till the end.

Dom Alex is studying at Blackfriars, Oxford, and is a pupil of Aidan Hart, the iconographer.  He writes about the icon of the Transfiguration in my website "Bathed in Silent Light"

The new programme for August is published.   It is on the Transfiguration.    There is Jean Corbon OP on the significance of the Transfiguration, and a contribution by a Greek Orthodox on the same.  Dom Alex gives us an explanation of the icon of the Transfiguration, while there are 4 videos on the same subject by Metropolitan Kallistos Ware.   Then, to illustrate the Transfiguration at work, we have posts on St Elizabeth, the Royal Martyr, the account from two Greek Catholics on their torture in Romania, Jean Vanier and L'Arche, St Elizabeth's Orthodox convent in Minsk, Henri Nouwen on the importance of a life of vulnerability, the life of the Elder Paisios and of Charles de Foucauld.   The website is found at http://bathedinlight.weebly.com

An excellent article from an Orthodox point of view.   Well worth reading.  Also, it balances his "The Myth of Schism".
