Raritan Valley Symphonic Band Presents JOY!
Band collaborates with Somerville High School Choir
Bridgewater, N.J., December 14, 2014—The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band (RVSB) will present its annual holiday concert, Sunday December 14, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium. The school is located at 600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Admission is free and open to the public.
Under the musical direction of Dr. Christopher G. Sumner, the band will liven up this holiday season with a concert titled “JOY”. Drawing upon the most wonderful time of the year, the band hopes to spread some of that joy through music.
The concert will begin with a variety pieces that portray a sense of the winter holidays approaching—“Festivo”, “The Willows of Winter” and “Joy Revisited”. The first half of the program will conclude with a monumental work by Alfred Reed, “Russian Christmas Music”. The second half of the program will consist of holiday specific music such as “Sleigh Ride”, “Rhapsody for Hanukkah” and “A Christmas Festival”.
Unique to this concert will be the exciting collaboration with Somerville High School Choir. Directed by Karen Gorzynski, these talented students will entertain you with many traditional carols including the classic “White Christmas”. Karen’s choirs receive superior ratings in national festivals but learn and grow the most by performing locally, bringing music and joy to the community.

Bridgewater, NJ, April 13, 2014 — The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band (RVSB) will present its annual spring concert Sunday April 13, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium. The school is located at 600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Admission is free and open to the public.

Under the musical direction of Meredith S. Boyan, this concert, titled “Folk Festival”, will feature folk melodies from England, Russia, Korea and the United States. The band will perform musical works of some of classical music’s greatest composers and big names in wind band— Aaron Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody”, “Folk Dances” by Dmitri Shostakovitch, “Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Percy Grainger’s “Shepherd’s Hey”, to name a few.

Bridgewater, NJ, February 3, 2013—

The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band (RVSB) will present its annual children’s concert Sunday February 3, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium. The school is located at 600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Admission is free and open to the public.

This concert is a great opportunity for children to learn to recognize musical instruments, while sharing a cultural performance with parents. Under the musical direction of Jennifer Eidel, RVSB Assistant Conductor, children will listen to music from popular kid’s movies like The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter. The band will also perform “Symphonic Marches” by John Williams and “Armed Forces Salute” arranged by Bob Lowden.

A musical instrument “petting zoo” will follow the 45 minute concert. This demonstration of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments will be given by members of the band and will take place in the lobby of the auditorium.

Under the musical direction of Lawrence C. Markiewicz, Director of Bands at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, the band will perform a concert titled, “Seasonal Sounds”. The band will kick off the holiday season during this program by performing “A Hanukkah Festival,” arranged by N.J. composer Chris M. Bernatos, as well as Leroy Andersons’ “Christmas Festival” and “Sleigh Ride”. Featured songs will also include “Poet and the Peasant” by Viennese composer Franz Von Suppe and Henry Fillmore’s “The Footlifter March”.

For the first time the RVSB will feature its own talented musicians as soloists during 2012-2013 concert season. At the “Seasonal Sounds” concert, Basil Magro, principal tubist, will showcase his agility and highly refined technique as he performs “From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific” by Herbert L. Clarke.

Raritan Valley Symphonic Band Presents Americana: Summer Sounds From The Gazebo

Featuring local high school musicians

Bridgewater, NJ, June 10, 2012— The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band (RVSB) will present its annual summer concert Sunday June 10, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium. The school is located at 600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Admission is free and open to the public.Under the musical direction of Lawrence C. Markiewicz, who is a Director of Bands at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, the band will perform a concert titled, “Americana: Summer Sounds from the Gazebo”. Featured songs will include “Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company” by John Phillip Sousa; “Someone to Watch Over Me” by George Gershwin, arranged by Warren Barker; and “The Star Spangled Banner,” arranged by Bill Moffitt. A special highlight during this program will be the performance of the full transcription of Anton Dvorak’s “Symphony No 9 ‘From the New World’ ”, arranged by Erik Liedzen.

The California Pizza Kitchen restaurant at the Bridgewater Commons Mall will be sponsoring a fundraising event for the RVSB on Thursday, April 26, 2012. CPK will donate 20% of all purchases (dine-in and takeout) made with this flyer, on that day, to the Band.

-March 17th, 2012The band is hard at work preparing for our upcoming concerts in April and May.The concert in April will be themed around opera music and we will play some favorite pieces and works from well known operas and ballet and will include music from Rienzi by Wagner, Allerseelen by Strauss, Carmen by Bizet, Nessun Dorma by Puccini, La Traviata by Verdi and several other works. Please keep an eye on this site as we will update with the press release and final concert details very soon.

May brings us to our rescheduled Children’s Concert. This will be a short and relaxed concert where the kids are encouraged to dance in the aisles and listen to music from this year’s theme of “The Wild Wild West.” We will present themes such as, cowboys, prairies, Southwest America, and others to help paint a picture of those times. This concert will be followed by our instrument petting zoo where members of the band will present their instruments to the kids and they can see and hear them up close.

RVSB ANNOUNCES UPCOMING CONCERT
Musical “War Horses” and Holiday Classics

Bridgewater, NJ, December 4, 2011— The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band (RVSB) will present a concert titled Musical “War Horses” and Holiday Classics on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium. The school is located at 600Garretson Road, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature a number of great concert hall classics. The program will include “Festive Overture” by Soviet Russian omposer Dmitri Shostakovich; the first movement from Symphony in B Minor, “The Unfinished Symphony” by composer Franz Schubert; scenes from “The Louvre” base don Ancient Airs by composer Norman Dello Joio; John Philip Sousa’s “King Cotton” march and more widely familiar musical works.
