Because timelines, basically.

"I'm not saying that the correctly timed intervention here and there is blah blah blah - look, it's valiant to go waste days, weeks, months and years trying to fish someone you care about out of their own abyss. But if your intuition asks, Is this a big O.K. Corral ego trip on the part of the people who are going to say, "All right, we're going to go in and handle this"? Because you're not. You're not going to handle shit. No amount of effort is going to nudge somebody out of a situation that they deem is hopeless. And people sense when there's an ego trip involved, when there's a "I'm here to save your life!" It's horseshit. I hate it. That's recovery vulturism.

People never change because they're under threat or under duress. Never. They change because they see something that makes their life seem valuable enough to start moving toward a life worth living."

--Robert Downey Jr., Esquire (May, 2012)

Not sure why, but this just resonated with me today.

Hello new followers... I just wanted to let you know, since most of you seem to be streaming over here after the posts I made about SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA, I keep most of my posts limited. Important stuff, things that need to be spread, I share Publicly. But that's it.

If you're looking for someone who makes a lot of activist posts, that's not me. Just so you know.

Where do we stand with ACTA ?

A signing ceremony was held on 1 October 2011 in Tokyo, with the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea signing the treaty.

In the countries listed above, we need to make sure that the treaty is not ratified. If ratified, work for repeal.

The European Union, Mexico, and Switzerland did not sign but said that they will sign in the future.

Let's work to make sure that these three do not sign the treaty and that no new countries decide to sign.

ACTA allows countries to sign the treaty until 31 March 2013.

We have to stay vigilant for 15 months.

Here's the wikipedia article for more information.

The threat of SOPA and PIPA aren't just local. The US is part of a global stage, and globally, we need to worry about ACTA, a measure which as far as I can tell is even worse than SOPA.

Please spread the word. Sign the petition.

So there's a wee little #kitten that's been coming by our apartment cos we put out food and let him snuggle. He's been here a good part of the summer and all of fall, and often we would have taken him to a shelter... if any of them had been accepting animals. We can't bring him inside, as we already have 3 cats, have no carrier, and he'd need to see the vet. But he's an adorable sweetheart.

Thing is, he's very thin, and this winter is shaping up to be very cold. (Just today, here in Denton, Texas, it was 30ºF feels like 19ºF!)

Can anyone in the #Denton/#DFW help this little guy out? Foster him, maybe, until he can be adopted?

This is utterly tragic. I find it appalling that the rep on the phone refused to pass the call upward. Surely it would be in PayPal's best interests to not only correct the user, but assist the user in correcting the issue so that everyone gets what they want done, y'know, for the children if nothing else.

Oh, that's right. PayPal already got their money.
