All about Hardware Equipment  -

Recently I have been having two big issues with my audio.

The first (and worst) is a loud buzz. Its definitely coming from the equipment and it is driving me crazy. I just can't get rid of it. I bought this ground loop isolator and it just made it worse. Is there a better isolator I should look at? If so where in the chain should I put it? (if it matters I am recording with an h4n).

The second problem is a hiss. I have done some noise removal but it really doesn't help much without leaving the audio sounding compressed.

Any ideas for either of these issues?  Thanks, this group has always been super helpful with this kind of stuff!

Gotcha. The only processing I did was converting from .was to .mp3. I'll upload the .wav file. Thanks again for the help.

I'm starting up yet another podcast and my co-host has a virtual dedicated server. We're debating whether to host using that or go the Blubrry/LibSyn route. Any opinions on which way is best? Thanks in advance!

Stick with Libsyn. The ease of feeding to iTunes, etc. Expanded storage. Expected increase in storage in the next year. Archiving old shows. Unless your co-host will continually upgrade his server as the podcast expands and provide increased feed services as new potential platforms become available, I don't see a reason to move away from a professional service that is fairly inexpensive considering what they provide.

Regardless of who you wanted to win the big game, its pretty cool that so many players with ties to the state of Utah were a part of the Super Bowl.

My original podcasting computer has finally died so I'm trying to migrate everything over to my MacBook Pro Retina. The only problem is there is no 1/8" microphone jack on the laptop, just the headphone jack. I need some way to get the audio from the mixer into the computer for Skype interviews. I don't have a USB mixer.

Does anyone have a work around for this? I'm sure its something really easy but I just can't figure it out. Thanks!

if your mixer does firewire you could try that, although I have never had any luck getting my mac to recognize it through firewire.

All about Software  -

I desperately need some help with PowerPress and I know a lot of people here are much smarter than me when it comes to this stuff.

I have been using podPress forever. I know a lot of people think it was a dead plugin but until recently it was being actively developed by volunteers and despite what a lot of experts say it worked perfectly and gave great stats.

But now it looks like it is finally dead so I bit the bullet and made the jump. I installed PowerPress, imported the settings from podPress, and uploaded my first episode. Everything looks great on my website, but my iTunes feed is not updating. I also submitted new artwork for iTunes (and yes it is 1400x1400) and now all I have is the dreaded iTunes "gray guy".

I've searched all over the plugin but can find no way to change the feed going into iTunes. The current feed it lists is not the correct one but I can't figure out how to change it. It seems to me (and like I said, I'm not the brightest bulb in the drawer) that the iTunes tab is primarily meant for submitting a new feed, not updating a current one.

I tried to move over to PowerPress a few years ago but encountered similar problems so I moved back. Unfortunately it looks like that's not an option without putting my entire site in jeopardy.

Any and all help is very appreciated! I have a huge interview that I need to get into the feed ASAP. Thanks!

-Allen

I set this all up like three and half years ago and I struggle with the tech stuff so I really couldn't tell you why the only feed I have is the website feed (www.doganddeuce.com/feed/). I never touched the category stuff. As far as podPress goes I know they've been developing it sporadically and had a large update a while back. It could have been more than two years ago but it feels a lot shorter than that.
