Program founder Suzanne Manafort was featured in an article in the Hartford Courant. She has been working with Veterans for over 7 years now. A director of the VA states that "veterans who have been through the (Mindful Yoga Therapy) program have found it very helpful in managing their symptoms," She continues, "For some of them, it has been life-changing."

Welcome to day 22 of the #22aDayChallenge

For many of us, the practices of yoga have changed our lives. MYT practices teach us to turn inward, to pay attention, and to notice without judgment. They enable us to find balance in our bodies and minds, as well as develop our overall well-being. Today's posture: Inversion of Choice

Today is your inversion of choice. The hosts will show a wide array of inversions, from restorative and passive to other more strenuous asanas. Any variation provides you with the benefits of inversions. Be sure to find the variation that you can hold for at least 10 rounds of breath.

Today's posture: Knees to Chest | Figure 4

Lying on your back, bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the ground. Bring your right ankle to stack upon your left thigh (creating a figure 4 with the legs). If your hips allow, bring your left leg in towards you, threading one hand in between your legs and the other on the outside to hold the back of the hamstring or shin.

Modification: Knees into Chest with no Figure 4 or Figure 4 with no knees into chest

Today's posture:
Seated Half Forward Bend

From your seated position, straighten your right leg out to the side and bring your left foot to the right inner thigh. Turn your torso toward the right thigh and either fold forward reaching your hands to your shin or foot OR use a strap to make the connection and lower your chest towards your thigh. Take a few rounds of breath and then complete on other side.

Modification: Use of strap/prop, bent knee

Today's posture: Supine Twist

Come to lie on your back, bending your knees to place your feet flat on the floor. Spread your arms out to the side like airplane wings. Keeping both knees together let them lower to the right side. Keep your left shoulder on the earth and look over towards your left hand. After a few rounds of breath, bring your gaze and knees back into center and perform on the other side.

Modification: As described above or support underneath the knees on either side with a pillow/blanket/bolster, or in between knees with pillow/blanket/bolster,

Today's posture: Boat

Find your way to a sitting position on your mat (knees bent so your feet are flat on the floor) and position yourself on top of the sit bones (focus on not rocking back toward your tailbone during this posture). Engage your core and lift your chest and then begin by lifting one leg and then the other to 90 degrees. If this feels comfortable, you can begin to extend your legs straight as long as you can keep from rocking backwards here. Focus on your naval support through the entire asana. Breathe and stay for as many rounds as possible and then slowly release.

Modification: Bent knees or one foot at a time

Today's posture: Locust

Lowering down to the earth to lie flat on your stomach, take your hands down to your hips, palms facing the ground. On an inhale slowly raise your chest from the ground as you reach your fingertips back towards your heels. Take a few deep breaths and then release to the ground. I recommend going through a few rounds of these, trying to slightly deepen the backbend each time.

Modification: One leg at a time
