Happy New Year and thanks for your support!

Thank you so much for your interest in my photography! Not many people get to follow their dreams and I am lucky to have that opportunity. In September of 2014, I quit my dead end corporate job to pursue my passion: to share with others my fascination and love of the natural world, through photography. After deciding that I wanted to pursue photography, the burning question was "how to make a living as a photographer?". I asked many professional photographers this question. Most said "don't do it!", while some gave good advice on where to start. I realized along the way that others can point you in the right direction, but you have to find your own path.

After making a successful transition I have been forming new goals. Having more time for travel and photography is great. What I truly appreciate now, is the time to think more deeply about my photography and the different ways I can use it to bring more attention to the value of the natural world. I will continue sharing my journey with you and look forward to seeing some of you online, in the field or on a workshop/tour where I can share my passion with you first hand.

Hope you all have a great 2016!

The new Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR lens review is ready!
http://www.nikhilbahl.com/nikon600mm-review.html

This review is based on my tests at home and over 10,000 images made in the field. The lens was primarily used with a Nikon D4 camera body and some tests were done with the D810 camera body to see how well the lens performed with a high resolution sensor. I have given the lens a good workout in different conditions and the review includes my thoughts on various aspects of the lens along with sample images.

I am honored to be this months featured artist in the Landscape Photography Magazine (issue 39). Twelve of my images are highlighted and it includes a short interview. I was pleased to see two of the images also selected as the Editor's choice. Here are the first 2 pages of the feature.

Since people keep adding me to their circles I am now compelled to start posting on G+ once again :) Hope to make it regular.
The arrival of the Snowy Owls on the east coast was hot news for any bird lover. While I was not able to spend the amount of time I would like trying to photograph this species. It was still good to get some photos. After spending 3 hours walking 4 miles (with 20 pounds of gear, in 0 degree temps) on a NJ beach we were not able to find an owl that was supposed to be super tolerant. Rather disheartened, tired and cold, we tried another beach. I walked up from the parking lot and proceeded to scan the area to my left and then right. The moment I looked straight ahead, I couldn't believe my eyes. This owl was sitting on a bird box 25 feet in front of me. 25 feet!!! Wow! Angelique and I spent 6 hours with this bird, taking turns using the restroom so we don't loose sight of the bird It was amazingly calm and accepting of our presence after this initial look of suspicion. It changed resting locations only when people walking their dogs came close. This was the first snowy owl close up photo and the light only got better.
Every time an animal lets me get this close and accepts my presence, I feel blessed to have the experience. It doesn't happen very often, but each experience is memorable and unique in its own way. Life is good!
