My cross-examination book is now out in hardback. (Yes, we're doing the order a little differently from the usual hardback-then-paper thing.)

WSJ has a short but interesting piece about our friends Aaron and Barbara Levine, in its "icons of art" series. Check out the photos of some of their art works. We have a bunch of them hanging in our office, where Aaron is "of counsel" at my firm.

I have an article in this month's Washington Lawyer about my work as a volunteer at the DC Bar pro bono clinic, which I've been doing for nearly 20 years.
Guest columnist Patrick Malone writes about the impact attorneys can make in just 30 minutes while volunteering for the Advice & Referral Clinic.

Clinical trials are the scientifically rigorous process by which drugs and medical devices are tested for how well they work and the risks they pose before the products are allowed to be marketed. Recently, the data from a lot of clinical trials sponsored by industry (that is, companies with a stake in the outcome) have come under fire, and now the feds are proposing rules to address that dangerous situation.

Two U.S. courts of appeal last week issued conflicting rulings about the government subsidies many people need to enable them to buy coverage under the health-care law. The mixed messages heaped confusion — and fear — onto the government-sponsored health-insurance market.

A few years ago, manufacturers of children’s cough and cold medicines revised their labels because the dosages were confusing and unsafe.  The labels were changed to direct parents not to give these meds to kids younger than 4.  Last month, the New York Times reported, the effort to revise label information has resulted in a significant decrease in emergency hospital visits by toddlers and infants with problems suspected to be the result of taking these meds.

Story
Tagline
Leading patient safety advocates and attorneys for medical malpractice and serious injury clients
Introduction
I grew up in Kansas, went to KU, became a journalist, decided to specialize in medical writing, then went to law school and became an attorney representing patients in medical malpractice cases. My wife Vicki and I have three sons: Ian (now married to Megan and with two beautiful granddaughters Penelope and Vivian), Christopher and Brendan.  Chris is married to Cristina Young and the two are in San Diego for Chris's residency in radiology at UCSD.  Brendan has finished school and has started in a sheltered workshop program with CSAAC in Montgomery County, Maryland. I wrote a book chapter about Brendan's autism which you can read on Amazon here. My law firm's website has way more information than you would ever want to read about my legal career, but what the heck, I've represented some wonderful clients and been on some harrowing legal journeys with them, most of which have worked out well in the end.

Vicki's work as a botanical artist can be found at her website: www.vickimaloneartist.com.
