It is like the people who wrote RFC1951 got in a competition to determine what was the minimum number of words they could use to fully define a standard.  I am convinced that what they produced was something that human has ever been capable of understanding, and instead is used as a prank to play on unsuspecting code monkeys.

Will pointed out you can say (f!=f) and it's the same as isnan(f).  I didn't believe him.  It only took 17 seconds for my computer to process every possible 32-bit combination to say: indeed they are identical, and f != f is ~3x faster than isnan(f).
