ANYONE AVAILABLE TO HELP ART OF CULTURAL EVOLUTION GARDEN GROUP AT CONFERENCE TOMORROW?

HI everyone!

Our friend Blair, the director of the garden sites in Wynwood and Homestead you may have volunteered at this semester, put out a call this morning for volunteers at this conference who can give people information at their table. They need help from 9:30-4:30.  She mentioned that "there are free snacks, water, coffee and they can enjoy the expo for free."

http://recyclingenergyforum.com/

If you respond to this post, Blair will see it. You can also message her directly at +Art of Cultural Evolution .

Thanks!

WALK2NICARAGUA REMINDER (SAT,. APRIL 18, 9 AM - 1 PM)

As you know, we’re meeting for the Walk on Sat., April 18 at the University of Miami from 9 am - 1 pm. Here are a map and directions.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Chapel+of+the+Venerable+Bede/@25.717586,-80.274383,121m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x88d9b7ffb3ea8c9b:0xa8a95d5282ee2301?hl=en

We will begin promptly at 9 am with an introduction to the day. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early so that you can register.

We’re excited about the day we’ve planned, which will include games and activities, food, music, lots of learning and community-making and, of course, our symbolic walk around the campus that we offer in solidarity to the children of Chacraseca, Nicaragua. Several students from the IAC SEED Club and the Kendall Yoga Service Club have been working hard since the beginning of the semester to make this experience possible.

Need some more inspiration? Check out this creative appeal to sponsors a student made for a past Walk.

A NOTE ABOUT DONATIONS AND EXTRA CREDIT

As you know, if you feel moved to take the additional step of getting sponsorship for the Walk, you can earn extra credit for the semester. How much?

First, be aware that although $$$ is only one aspect of this project, it is an important one. A few dollars from each Walk participant would make a huge difference in the lives of these children. Drops in the bucket for us transform a whole community. If you’re asking for donations out of a genuine interest in these children’s lives, rest assured that the effort is well worth it.

At the same time, our work is about so much more than money. It is about delivering your message with passion, which is priceless--for everyone involved, including you.

So here’s the deal. It’s not about how much $$$. It’s about how many folks hear you.

Anyone who brings at least 1 sponsor and any donation gets about half the extra credit possible, 2 points on your final average. If you bring 10 sponsors or more--with a donation from each one--you get the max extra credit for the semester, 5 points. If you bring something in between, you get something in between.

When you register at the beginning of the day, bring your donations along with a list of your sponsors on this form. Let sponsors know we’re asking for the email to thank them for their support:

Look forward to seeing you!

ANYONE LOOKING FOR A JOB AT THE KENDALL CAMPUS?

This looks like a good opportunity from the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy at Kendall, which is the office that runs the service-learning program. Just passing it along!

Hi everyone. Hope your summer is going well! Registration for the Fall semester opens today, and I just wanted you to be aware of this LIT 2480 course that I'm teaching in case you might be interested. The main focus of the course is the popular television series Lost. (Below is the official trailer for season 1, and I encourage you to look up the show if you're thinking about it but aren't sure.) Keep in mind that the course would fulfill your oral communications (speech) requirement.

Here is the course website, which includes a tentative syllabus.

I'm teaching three sections of the course, two at IAC and one at Kendall.
