This is easily the most unintentionally hilarious, overblown, pretentious bollocks I've seen in quite a while. Empty nonsense for some over-wealthy schmo to blow his dough on. Remind me again what the higher artistic concept behind this is that justifies consigning an album to possibly only ever being heard by whoever has the most money and his rich buddies? Damn, I've been a Wu fan since Protect Ya Neck but this is wack.

The BBC's Beta homepage re-design is very tablet friendly and seems to take more than a few design cues from Microsoft’s forthcoming Windows 8 “Metro” interface, with its collection of tiles and sideways scrolling main panel. It also brings it into line with the current iPlayer look and feel.

All built in what appears to be HTML5 and CSS too.

Yum.
Breaking news, sport, TV, radio and a whole lot more. The BBC informs, educates and entertains - wherever you are, whatever your age.

I cannot wait for the death of Flash. A clunky mess for users and developers alike that crashes my, obviously HTML5 favouring, Chrome browser constantly these days. The BBC site also reminds me a bit of Feedsquare which I use organise my RSS feeds. Tweetdeck app for Chrome does some neat HTML5 too.

Ok, I've left this alone for a month or so maybe it's time to give it another bash.

Just started reading Bulgakov's Master and the Margherita, two chapters in and I think; "This is reminding me of something?". All of a sudden it clicks. This is clearly the inspiration for Jagger's lyrics to Sympathy for the Devil. One quick Google later and it turns out I was right. Everyday's a schoolday.

Gondry's animated Chomsky documentary looks like a return to form after his Green Hornet misadventure (Gondry's, not Chomsky's; although Chomsky as the Green Hornet couldn't have been much worse...). Premiered last night as the closing film at DOC NYC.

Think Tanks and Policy Wonks

Adam Curtis on the birth of the Think Tank and the Free Market outsiders of the 1950's who created them. In typically 'truth is stranger than fiction' style this encompasses factory farming, pirate radio and the somewhat Sci-Fi, esoteric almost religious dogma underpinning Hayek's theories on post-war Laissez Faire Capitalism. Eventually it leads to Google. Doesn't everything?
Online films, text and selected images from Adam Curtis, maker of The Power of Nightmares, The Century of the Self, The Mayfair Set, Pandora's Box, The Trap and The Living Dead.

Well, back to the 19th c. or so In England with the Fabian, although I imagine there have always been influential groups with a vested interest in influencing policy shall we say. I think they emerged just after the Civil War in America with groups like the New York Bureau of Municipal Research, National Civic Federation, U.S. Industrial Commission, Russell Sage Foundation, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

The Round Table movement started in England in 1909 is pretty interesting. Carol Quigley covers it in his 1966 doorstop Tragedy and Hope and Carl Oglesby views it as a starting point in his seminal 70's book on the re-alignment of American elite politics along North-East/South-West divisions The Yankee Cowboy War. It's sadly out of print but you can read it here:

Well worth a gander and could be right up your street.
