My wife, son and I stopped here for brunch recently. While the service and food were good(not great), I felt a little cramped from the community tables. It could have been done better. It didn't wow me but struck me as adequate.

Nice spot with a good beer selection. Didn't get any food. Prices were steep, but this is NYC after all.

Bad service. Mediocre food. Normally I'm not one to comment on service because I grew up eating at Asian restaurants where they could not give a flip, but Spitzer's stood out to me as particularly bad, well one waitress stood out to me as particularly bad. When our group entered, the hostess told us to head to the back to find seats. Once we found a table in the back and sat down, the aforementioned waitress came out and combatively asked us whether the hostess seated us. When we answered no, she admonishes us and sends us to the front again to speak to the hostess who ends up seating us right next to where we were. That's annoying but fine, whatever. Then when the food comes out, the waitress asks who ordered the lamb burger. I did so I raised my hand and she handed the plate to me from behind (note, she did not set my plate in front of me like a waitress would at any other restaurant). She hands the sweet potato fries to my friend. Once the plate is in front of me, I start poking my burger to move it more to the center of the bun, and then she comes back, angrily reprimands me with an "I told you to wait!", and grabs my plate with the burger I had been touching and gives it to another guest without an explanation or an apology. This is wrong on so many levels and could have been handled better in so many ways. This is wrong for the person who ended up with my touched burger. This was wrong for me who was ready to bite down on some mediocrity. This is wrong for the second waitress who now has to be extra nice to make up for her surly coworker. The overall attitude I got from the first waitress was "Eff you. You're lucky to even get the chance to pay for an $18 burger from Spitzer's. The fact that you get to sit down and pay me 20% tip is pure icing on the cake." As someone who has long left southern hospitality and human decency behind, I can tolerate this IF the food is good. But it wasn't good. And I freaking love lamb burgers and brioche buns. The burger was pretty tasteless and very difficult to eat because it was so large (that's what she said). The bun was equally tasteless, which was the most disappointing part. The bun on my boyfriend's hickory burger just completely fell apart. The only redeeming thing were our sweet potato fries. Those were cut, spiced, and fried perfectly. It's a shame that their one waitress ended up making my experience here so bad. This could have been a 3 star rating.

HUGE beer list. Definitely take your beer loving guests here. The shared table space made for some awkward interaction with some awful teenagers.

Stopped in here on a Sunday morning right when they opened and the place was empty. The breakfast was good and the service seemed good as well, although with only 3 other tables with people it's hard to say what it'd be like when the restaurant is full. Will have to stop in here again next time I visit the city.

I've gone to brunch here a few times and it's generally amazing. Come during the summer when they open up the whole facade to the street and breathe in the Lower East Side.
