Bad service. Mediocre food. Normally I'm not one to comment on service because I grew up eating at Asian restaurants where they could not give a flip, but Spitzer's stood out to me as particularly bad, well one waitress stood out to me as particularly bad. When our group entered, the hostess told us to head to the back to find seats. Once we found a table in the back and sat down, the aforementioned waitress came out and combatively asked us whether the hostess seated us. When we answered no, she admonishes us and sends us to the front again to speak to the hostess who ends up seating us right next to where we were. That's annoying but fine, whatever. Then when the food comes out, the waitress asks who ordered the lamb burger. I did so I raised my hand and she handed the plate to me from behind (note, she did not set my plate in front of me like a waitress would at any other restaurant). She hands the sweet potato fries to my friend. Once the plate is in front of me, I start poking my burger to move it more to the center of the bun, and then she comes back, angrily reprimands me with an "I told you to wait!", and grabs my plate with the burger I had been touching and gives it to another guest without an explanation or an apology. This is wrong on so many levels and could have been handled better in so many ways. This is wrong for the person who ended up with my touched burger. This was wrong for me who was ready to bite down on some mediocrity. This is wrong for the second waitress who now has to be extra nice to make up for her surly coworker. The overall attitude I got from the first waitress was "Eff you. You're lucky to even get the chance to pay for an $18 burger from Spitzer's. The fact that you get to sit down and pay me 20% tip is pure icing on the cake." As someone who has long left southern hospitality and human decency behind, I can tolerate this IF the food is good. But it wasn't good. And I freaking love lamb burgers and brioche buns. The burger was pretty tasteless and very difficult to eat because it was so large (that's what she said). The bun was equally tasteless, which was the most disappointing part. The bun on my boyfriend's hickory burger just completely fell apart. The only redeeming thing were our sweet potato fries. Those were cut, spiced, and fried perfectly. It's a shame that their one waitress ended up making my experience here so bad. This could have been a 3 star rating.

Came here with a group of friends with prior reservations. The food was surprisingly better than expected. My wife and I ordered the hickory burger and the braised pork belly sandwich. The burger came with one pickle, one piece of lettuce, and ketchup. The beef was tasty, but what i don't get is...my friend ordered the same thing and she had tomato and onion with it...and mine didnt (wth?!). As for the braised pork belly sandwich, it was soft and juicy..but too much fat towards the end (but i guess you do need some fat there to make the meat soft). The sandwich was missing a sauce..it would have tasted much better if there was some type of sauce...the sandwich seems dry if the pork doesn't have much sauce on it. If you want to have actual conversations with friends...this isn't really the right place to go b/c you would have to yell on top of ur lungs to speak to the person sitting across from you. Speaking of the seating issue...i sat at the long wooden picnic tables with my back facing the bar and the waitress there always decide to deliver the food and drinks to my friend who was sitting across from me behind my back..and i got yanked by her elbow a few times...and she didn't even apologize. There is plenty of room on the other side of the table for her to put the food and drinks down, so I don't understand why she has to do it on my side..and i was really annoyed (did not even have the courtesy to say "excuse me" or say "sorry", geez). Huge selection of beers on tap, prices are normal nyc priced $6+ depending on the beer you select.

We arrived tired and hungry... and left possibly more tired but full of delicious food! I ordered the truffle mac and cheese, which was spectacular. One of those dishes were every mouthful tastes better than the next. My drink – which was made with chilli tequila – was a bit too intense for me but the bar staff happily made it a long cocktail as opposed to a short which made it much easier to drink!

I have to say, this place is the best for breakfast and German food. I was there for lunch, but I used the brunch menu. I got a chorizo hash with a nice salad on the side. Now, here's the bad part. I got a side of bacon in addition and it was ~$5. What was so wrong about the bacon? Well...the gave me *only four (4)* strips!!! I appreciate your lovely food, Spitzer's, but four strips of bacon _does not_ cost five bucks. It just doesn't. Now for the people reading this, don't get too concerned. Other than that, it was a great atmosphere; the location was beautiful with all its wood panels and communal tables. It's a really talkative place. So there you go.

Really nice spot for a drink, especially in the afternoon when the weather is nice and the window seats are open. The beer selection is pretty awesome with a ton on tap any many more bottles. It gets very crowded and fairly rowdy at night, so an afternoon visit might be preferable. The staff is petty good and checks up frequently. The beer selection also varied from German beer to small west coast crafts which was nice for finding something to really suit my tastes.

Crowded at peak days and times. The beer selection though, a wide variety of beers. Many from microbreweries. Not the best place to hang out with friends as it is hard to hear each other talk in the loud, crowded environment. If you do come earlier in the night you'll have a better chance of getting better service, hearing your friends talk, and not be overcrowded with folks bumping into you. Bar food was your basic bar snacks but i would recommend the mac and cheese to wash down the alcohol.
